"he really gave this to me?" changmin asked, sitting at the edge of his bed and holding the penguin keychain with his two hands. kevin nodded in reply and in that instance, changmin felt as though obtaining that one penguin keychain (which probably caused $4) was equivalent to winning the lottery. "choi chanhee gave me a gift!"
when he had reached his dorm, all he did was stare blankly at his wall. no tears fell but he still felt his heart clenching every second he took a breath and he wished that he could cry right there and then.
but, he couldn't, his own self-ingrained mentality that he shouldn't cry over such things preventing his body from reacting in a way that was much better for him.
changmin wanted to explain himself to chanhee.
he wanted to explain how he had fallen for him based on his portraits but even he knew how that felt entirely superficial seeing as how, they had barely even interacted beforehand. and, he knew that if he tried explaining why he wanted to befriend him in the first place, it would still seem selfish to some extent.
and so, he had sat on the floor, his head leaning against the wall until kevin came in, his energy shifting the gloomy atmosphere of the room into something brighter (also because kevin pulled the curtains open so it was literally brighter).
"yeah, he suddenly just took it off, gave it to me to give to you and then left without giving any context like...? who even does that but anyways, penguin for you i guess?" as kevin went to his table to start on some newer drawings for his club, changmin whipped his phone out and immediately searched for chanhee's username.
jikyuwu
thank you for the
penguin! ♡´・ᴗ・'♡
i'll keep him safe
and sound for you!
also, does he have
a name?? (◕ω◕✿)changmin tapped on his phone screen, biting his lip as the penguin sat on his lap. although he wanted to believe that chanhee didn't mind his confession, a small voice in the back of his head kept telling him otherwise and every passing second without a reply from chanhee was just feeding into that doubt.
then he saw chanhee come online and read his message, his heart beginning to pound so loudly against his chest that he was half afraid that he was bothering kevin.
choichanhee

SORRY FOR THAT
(๑•﹏•)⋆* ⁑⋆* i swear
i'm not that bad
ヾ(´・ ・`。)ノ”choichanhee is typing. . .
waiting for his response felt like years had passed within the span of twenty seconds and changmin did not like the suspense one bit.
and as he stared at his phone, the question of whether or not chanhee would acknowledge or even mention his confession was slowly becoming more and more pressing, his thoughts continuously flashing back to it.
"reply, reply, reply..." changmin muttered under his breath, chanhee's typing stopping ever so often and only giving changmin more stress than he could handle.
finally, his phone lit up, another notification from the boy coming through but the second he opened the message, he felt his heart drop all the way underground.
choichanhee
look. i'm not going to ignore what happened earlier but i am going to apologise for acting the way i did when perhaps, and i'm only saying perhaps to give you the benefit of the doubt, you might have truly felt that way about me. however, if i'm being honest, i find it ridiculous to suddenly like me despite not really knowing me so i think you should set yourself to a higher standard if what you claimed was 100% true. there are a lot of people in our campus who worship the ground you walk on so i think those are the type of people that you should pay attention to instead of someone who cannot express affection towards others.choichanhee
i'm sorry if what you felt towards me felt like "love at first sight" but, i don't believe in such things, so naturally, i would find it hard to believe that your emotions towards me are true.choichanhee
i gave you that keychain as an "i'm sorry i reacted that way" and also as an "i'm sorry but i cannot just ignore your confession" because, if what you said was true, i think it takes a shit ton of courage to be able to do that.choichanhee
do whatever you want with this reaction. i don't really care that much (yet another reason why you shouldn't like me).changmin was speechless.
although he knew that chanhee had been typing for an oddly long period of time, he wasn't expecting him to speak about his thoughts in such a way.
and, before he could even gather his own thoughts, chanhee immediately went offline, leaving changmin feeling utterly at a loss once again.
