Hey, this is me ... Lia Smith. I'm 16 years old and I live in Belgium. I think that I have a special story to tell ... I'll just start with the story but there is one thing that you should know...
I have social anxiety ... it is so difficult for me to find friends and talk to people in public. That's why I wanna tell my story, so that I can help others!
Now ... just read my story ... it begins all when I come home from school.'Mom I'm home!' I yell in the hall. I am back from a long day of school. I put my shoes under the stair case and my jacket on the coat rack ... ready to start the friday evening!
I wanna call my best friend Manon to come over and hang out with me when my mom comes into the living room followd by my dad. 'What's going on?' I ask. My mom comes to me and sits down next to me on the chair. 'Well honey...' she says, 'your father just got the news that he has to move for his work to America...' Her eyes are watery, she tries not to cry. 'But why ... like are we going with dad or is he going alone? to where in America? what with my school? what with my friends here? what with our family here?' My voice breaks and tears roll over my cheeks. 'I understand that you're shocked Lia but ... if I could choose I wouldn't do it but I have to if I wanna keep this job ...' my dad says. 'I-.. I-.. don-.. don't... think it's a goo-... good idea ...' I say. My father looks to the ground and says: 'I know honey ... I know ... but we already talked to your brother and he doesn't like it too, but he said that he'll try to help you with finding friends.' I don't know that what I'm hearing is real. I can't say anything for more then 10 minuts straight. My father sighs and says: 'listen Lia, it isn't gonna be easy... I know but I am pretty sure that you're gonna find America, I better say Los Angels amazing! The contract says 3 years living there so after 3 years we'll just come back home sweetheart!'
'Are you sure?' I get up and wipe away my tears. 'Yes,' does my father say, 'I'm sure.' He gets up and walks away. My mom comes to me, she gives me a hug. 'Sorry sweetheart...' she kisses me on my forhead and leaves right behind my dad.
Now I'm alone in the giant living room. 'It'll be fine' I tell myself.I walk through the kitchen and take the water bottle out of the fridge. I drink it in one go, grab my phone from the table and call Manon.
