DP ~ Friends to Lovers

Dominic stood on the steps of his high school; the spot Preston and him promised to meet since it was their first day.

"Hey, Dominic!"

Dominic turned around and instantly smiled. It was Preston! Because of COVID-19, they haven't seen each other in almost 2 years! Dominic felt butterflies in his stomach when he saw Preston, something he's never felt before.

"Hey Preston! Can you believe we're finally in high school? I'm so exc-"

Preston cut him off.

"Dominic shut up you sound so gay right now bro."

Dominic looked at the ground, slightly embarrassed. Over the quarantine, Dominic realized he wasn't straight. He saw guys completely different from what he did before. He still liked girls, and at first thought he was bi, but then he realized there were 100s of sexualities that he felt better suited him. he preferred to be unlabelled while he figured it out, but if Preston found out he liked guys and girls, then they probably wouldn't be friends. He thought about this a LOT over quarantine and decided to pretend he was straight. After all, he was friends with Preston longer than he even realized he liked men, it was probably just a phase he was going through. Right?

Preston looked over and saw Dominic blushing, looking embarrassed. He almost instantly felt bad.

"...But yes, I'm very excited Dominic."

Dominic looked up. Seeing Prestons half-smiling face gave Dominic a sense of comfort and happiness. He felt better and smiled.

~the bell rang for school~

"Hey Dom, What class you got?"

"English with Mr.Man. You?"

"Dude me too!"

Dominic's heart fluttered. He was very excited to have at least one class with Preston.

~ In class ~

"Class, please go around introducing yourself to the class"

Mr.Man said with a booming voice. That gave Dominic an idea. What if Dominic came out to the class? Preston couldn't get mad at him in class.. Right? No, because after class Preston would yell at Dominic, or hurt him for being gay. Dominic scrapped the idea and-

"Dominic. Are you listening? It's your turn to tell us about you."
 

"oh, I'm sorry"

Dominic stood up and walked to the front of the classroom. Preston seemed uninterested in whatever he was about to say, his eyes were actually closed. Preston was sleeping.

"Dominic we don't have all day."

"Right, sorry."

Dominic decided to just do it. 

"Hi, I'm Dominic. I'm into old films and TV shows, memes and alsooo..."

He took a deeeep breath and looked at Preston. He sleeps so peacefully, Dominic thought. 

"I like boys and girls. I don't want to put a label on it sooo yeah. that's pretty much me"

Dominic went back to his desk and looked at Preston, only to see him awake staring at him. Dominic instantly looked away, petrified. He started blushing and felt his eyes well up with tears. 

3 years.

That's how long Preston and Dominic were friends. 

And now it's all over. 

Because Dominic was an idiot.

Dominic then wondered why he even cared so much. He can make new friends, right? He could find people in the LGBTQ+ community to hang out with.
