The time is five hundred hours. The time is five hundred hours.” “Mom?” My mom
always gets up at 5 o’clock sharp every morning. Normally she lets me sleep in and she
turns off the alarm. “Mom?” I asked again as I walked into her bedroom. Her bed was
empty and made, so perfectly done that you could easily guess that she was in the
military. I walked through our quarters calling out for her as I went. Bathroom, empty.
Main room, empty. Maybe she had an emergency in Ops and forgot to leave a note.
“Computer locate Captain Kira.” I said. “Captain Kira is not aboard the station.” Not on
the station? Now that was weird. If she had to leave she would at least tell me that she
was leaving. Nog, Nog would know if something had happened.
I ran out to the turbolift and quickly said, “Ops”. Nog asked, “Zia, what are you
doing here so early?” as I ran out of the turbolift. “Have you seen my mom?” I asked him
and swiftly explained what had occurred earlier that morning. “She’s not? The last time I
saw her was last night when my shift ended.” Nog replied incredulously.
“Hi Nog. Good morning Zia, you’re up early.” Lieutenant Ezri Dax walked out of
the turbolift steaming mug of ginger tea in hand. “Is your mom up yet? We were up
pretty late talking about the repairs for the Defiant.” After I explained what had
happened, Ezri suggested, “Maybe she went on to the Defiant for some reason. I’ll go check with you.”

After a long search of all the nooks and crannies of the U.S.S. Defiant we arrived
at the conclusion that she just wasn’t aboard. While Ezri and I were investigating the
Defiant, Nog was going through all of the records of ships in transporter range of the
station after Ezri and my mom parted ways last night. “There were several ships in
transporter range of the station during that time. We have determined that this ship that
went through the wormhole at twenty five hundred hours is the most likely one.
Unfortunately, it never docked at the station so we can’t identify it.” Nog explained.
“We’ll have to try and pick up their ion trail on the other side of the wormhole.” I say
quickly. “We are not doing anything. Nog and I will take the Defiant and try to catch up
with them. I have a feeling they will respond better to a Starfleet Officer attempting to
board them than a fifteen year girl in a homemade spaceship, no matter how well made
she is.” Beep Beep the monitor next to Dax lit up. “Forshak! Star Fleet has ordered us not
to confront the ship due to the shaky political position the Federation currently has in the
Gamma Quadrant.” Ezri stated. “What?! She is the reason the Cardassians joined the
war against the Dominion. She saved the Alpha Quadrant!” Nog exclaimed. “I know
Nog,” Ezri said, “but we can’t disobey orders.” “If StarFleet won’t do anything to save my
mom then I will. I’ll take Jake, Jenny, Molly, and Yoshi and go myself.” I fumed. “Well

count me in. I’ll take all my leave and come with you. I’ve known your mom since I was
a kid. She’s always been a huge inspiration to me.” Nog added.
“I wish I could help you guys.” Ezri started, “Wait, I think I know a way I can help
you guys without disobeying orders. I’ll make sure you can get through the wormhole
undeterred.” “Thanks you guys, I know how much Mom means to you.” I say gratefully.
“Plus the Jadzia in her won’t let her sleep again knowing that she let her best friend
disappear without doing anything about it.” Nog said sadly. While I have never met
either of my name sakes, they both died before I was born, but I knew that everyone
missed them enormously. Ezri crossed and hugged us. “Be careful, all of you, and send
my love to the others.” she said earnestly. “We will.” I smiled knowing that  Deep Space
Nine would be in good hands while we were away.
