XOXO

It was in the dead of night, a group of high school students gathered atop a 13 storey building. The only one in the group that didn't belong was Ichi.

A student with a large build named Arata shoved Ichi by the shoulder while his friends laughed. "Not so tough now, are you?"

Ichi didn't respond.

Arata sneered. "What? You're not gonna apologize?"

Ichi just stared at him, his face hard without a trace of emotion.

One of Arata's crew mates stepped forward. "Ey, that expression looks like a challenge."

The guys at the back teased. "He ain't scared of you, Arata."

Provoked, Arata grabbed Ichi by the collar and pushed him onto the railing on the edge of the building. Even his friends were taken by surprise.

"Woah! Arata, that's a little-" His second in command, Kai, tried telling him.

"Shut up!" Arata glared at Ichi whose upper body was already hanging. "Wipe that smug look off your face or your dead!"

But Ichi remained static. Kai grabbed Arata by the arm but he refused to let go. "That's enough!"

"Consider yourself lucky." Arata spat as he started to pull Ichi back. But just then, the beam from a flashlight scanned the rooftop and a security personnel appeared on the fire escape stairs.

"What's going on there?"

Startled, Arata accidentally released Ichi before he could pull him back to safety and he fell over the railing.

"Arata!" Kai exclaimed as they all watched in terror.

Arata backed away, trembling. "Let's get out of here!" The crew scrambled, shoving the elderly guard out of the way before he could identify any of them or even realize that somebody had fallen over.

As Ichi plunged into what felt like an endless pit, so many thoughts and images ran through his head that he couldn't even make out what they were anymore.

He closed his eyes. "Goodbye."

He'd already anticipated it, gasping for air, his stomach sinking and anytime now, he would crash head first on concrete.

But suddenly, he felt incredibly light. And a comforting warmth embraced his body.

"What's this feeling?" He wondered. "Am I...dead?"

As he drifted into unconsciousness, he briefly opened his eyes. He thought maybe he was hallucinating because staring back at him was a man with skin that seemed to glow underneath the moonlight. He had crystal blue eyes and a pair of gigantic wings.

His hair danced with the wind as they descended. "It's not yet time, Ichi."

Ichi heard a cold yet calming voice whisper just before everything went black.
