M.I.High (Oscar and Avril)

'Chapter One'

This story takes place many, many years after the ending of the core show and outlines briefly a short thought of what could happen to these characters after leaving school. This 'story' relies on some knowledge of season five episode 'The B Team' and the overall storyline of Avril becoming a spy briefly.

After leaving St Hopes, Carrie and Rose transfer to another department, while Oscar decides to train with his father. Many years later, while bored after a long mission, Rose and Carrie decide to look up their old files and find something unexpected - Oscar has a child, Hazel Cole. Shocked, they soon discover that the biological mother is Avril Franklin, the girl who had a crush on Oscar all throughout high school.  And, she works as a cleaner at St Hopes! After much thought and deliberation, they decide to send Oscar to St Hopes under the guise that Frank dimly wants to catch up but secretly they hope that he may soon discover his parentage himself.

A couple of days later we catch up with our main characters, as Oscar arrives to his old school, narrowly missing Avril who is mopping the floor in the hall. He travels to the HQ below the school and meets the new team of high school super-spies. They seem to know about Oscar, Avril and Hazel and try to start a conversation about them, however, Frank shuts them down. During mid-conversation, Frank gets a call from Avril about a suspicious car that she saw lurking at the entrance of the school.

[After becoming aware of the existence of M.I.High, when the SMARTIE tablet malfunctions due to age, Avril has been tasked as an informant for MI9, taking post as a cleaner and watching out for any suspicion behaviour]

Soon, Frank and Oscar head up to the main school and finally meet up with Avril. It's not long before Frank makes his excuses to leave. There is an awkward silence as the two try to figure out what to say - Oscar shocked to see Avril working for the school, while Avril processes seeing the 'man' she had crushed on all throughout school. Soon the awkwardness clears and during this exchange, they soon strike a conversation about what happened a couple of years previous, around the night of the prom and the aftermath.

*Flashback starts*
(Unrelated incident during the end of season 5) - Avril gets hit with a dart that she seems to be allergic too, soon falling unconscious. Although hesitant, Rose tells Oscar to bring Avril down to the HQ to get an antidote for the allergic reaction, which he does. Oscar is extremely concerned and chooses to stay with her while the antidote starts to take affect. Once he knows she is safe he brings her back up to school and waits with her on a bench until she awakes. He makes up an excuse that she fainted and that she probably hadn't eaten much that day, she believes it whole heartedly. However, she is pleasantly surprised at Oscars kindness to stay with her when she was struggling and believes that their friendship may be turning around for the better. Later on in the week, when Avril (with the intent that she will be rejected) asks Oscar to Prom, she is shocked that he actually says yes. So is Rose and Carrie, who end up teasing them. When the day of the Prom comes, they actually have fun and end up kissing at the end of the night. Over the next couple of days, weeks and months they end up going out much more on other dates before one thing leads to another and Avril finds out she is pregnant. However, soon after, Oscar is told that he needs to leave urgently for his placement in his new department with his father. He is pushed into a corner and does not get to say goodbye to her or talk to her about why he needs to leave so suddenly.
*Flashback ends*

After being angry towards Oscar for many years for leaving just before learning that she was pregnant with his child, Avril has long since learnt to forgive him. Even before she knew there would be a chance encounter with him on the school grounds. And she tells him this. Which appeases Oscar who has always felt guilt towards what happened. They go sit on a bench on the school grounds. Avril comes clean quite quickly and reveals information about her new position at the school as an informant for MI9, and of course, at the end, finally reveals Hazel. Oscar is shocked. He takes a moment to process the news as they sit on the bench in front of the school. The bell rings for the end of the day and Avril reveals she has to pick up Hazel from the local nursery. Asking Oscar to come along, on the way out, they pass by Frank who asks if everything is sorted and they reply yes.

They pick up Hazel from the nursery where she is introduced to Oscar. After a short while, they go to a restaurant for something to eat and just generally spend the day together. This continues for the next couple of days and soon, Oscar and Avril rekindle their friendship. Oscar can't seem to imagine a life now without Avril or his daughter, Hazel, and that causes a dilemma for him. Over the course of several weeks, Oscar helps the new team of high school spies as they face off their new antagonist - Bunny, before heading back to MI6 and to Carrie and Rose. Of course, learning about Hazel is not a big shock to them but they make sure that Oscar isn't aware of this fact. They ask to see a picture of Hazel and chat about her and Avril.  After a couple of missions under his belt at MI6, Oscar soon realises that he cannot continue to work at the HQ if he wants to be a better father than his own dad, and provide Hazel with the childhood he missed out on. He asks for a transfer to the old high school to work closer with Avril and play a role in his young daughter's life. However, things soon take a turn and Oscar is soon left facing something he had long since left in the past..

End of chapter one
