While at school, Izuku makes a fantastic discovery!
(Location: Musutafu pre-school.)
"From shooting fire out of your eyeballs to glowing in the dark, every quirk has the possibility of making someone a dastardly no-good-oer, or a heroic, well, hero! Quirks have been around for many years, and while we still don't know everything about them, crime has been at an all-time high due to people being fed up with today's society. But worry not, young watcher! While the amount of villainy has risen, so have the goodhearted individuals who have stepped up to put an end to crime once and for all! Remember kids, anyone has the capability of being a hero. And, maybe someday, you'll be one of the greats!"
Green eyes sparkled while staring at the TV screen, a sudden, warm feeling of pride building up in a young boy's chest as he watched one of the heroes from yesteryears throw a couple of villains in a jail cell. Izuku Midoriya was the boy's name, and while he didn't have his quirk quite yet, his every waking thought was filled with him being all grown up and being a hero! Stopping bad guys, saving people, maybe even working alongside the number one pro hero All Might himself! Most nights he stayed up well past his bedtime, eagerly sketching different designs for his hero costume or coming up with different hero names! And once he got his quirk, the sky would be the lim—
Thunk
Izuku flinched, snapping out of his daydreams and shaking his head before grabbing the back of his head where he had felt something hit him.
"Oi, Deku! Stop daydreaming and help me out, will ya? I'm not gonna do all the work and let you get all the credit!" a young, brash voice shouted from behind him, using Izuku's signature nickname. What was once a negative nickname given to him by a couple of older boys was now an endearing nickname that only his closest friends could call him.
Izuku turned with a smile, watching as his blond friend huffed and dragged one of the school chairs towards a giant tower. This boy's name was Katsuki Bakugo, Izuku's best friend since, well, birth! Their mothers had been best friends since high school, so naturally the boys had spent time together practically since the moment they were born. Ever since then, they've had an unbreakable, inseparable bond!
Why were they grabbing chairs, you may ask? Well the school was having an assembly, so Izuku and Bakugo had volunteered to stack chairs for their teacher in order to get out of it.
"Sorry Kacchan!" Izuku apologized, running over and grabbing another free chair before dragging it towards his own growing stack, missing the scene of the video of a green-skinned man tossing a car into a villain. His stack was five chairs high, while Bakugo's was triple that at 15. The blond boy's stack was so tall, he needed to make a smaller stack to climb on in order to keep adding to the taller stack. With a grunt, Bakugo used all his strength to lift the chair up and add it to the stack, making it an impressive 16.
"Katsu! Don't throw pencils at Izu! It's not nice," a new voice scolded the blond boy.
"Thank you, Sume!" Izuku thanked, turning to the other room's occupant with a grin.
Mei Hatsume, a young, pink-haired girl with a knack for technology, and far smarter than most kids her age. She was the third musketeer in the friend group, the one who often talked the boys out of doing something stupid (and on occasion, talking them into doing something stupid). Her mother was also friends with Izuku's and Bakugo's mothers, so naturally she spent a lot of time growing up with the boys as well.
"Hey, give me a break! It's how I show my love," Bakugo retorted, hopping down from the smaller stack to stare up at his impressive tower. "Ah yeah, bet you can't beat this tower, Deku! I'm the chair stacking master!" Bakugo gloated, letting his competitive nature shine as he always did. He jumped and pumped his fist into the air, imitating All Might's famous and signature pose. When he landed onto his feet with a thud, the force caused the tower to wobble, and several of the top chairs started to fall down, heading straight for Mei's head.
The girl's eyes widened before closing in fear, too scared to move. Bakugo gasped and readied an attempt to launch himself forward to tackle her out of the way, but the chairs froze mere inches away from her head before he could. His eyes widened in shock, and soon, Mei's eyes opened as well to see why she hadn't been hit yet. Like her friend, her eyes also widened upon seeing the chairs floating, with some kind of green energy around them. The two turned to Izuku, watching as he had his hands held out, green energy similar to that of the chairs coating them. With a huff, he lowered the chairs onto the ground safely, the energy dying down around his hands and chairs not even a second after. He breathed in and out, sweat forming on his brow.
"Deku? Was-Was that your quirk?" Bakugo asked in awe, beyond happy that his friend's quirk had finally arrived.
"Are you okay, Izu?" Mei asked, moving to his side as he huffed and puffed, legs shaking, albeit only slightly.
"Y-Yeah, I'm okay Sume. Just out of breath," Izuku said, gasping a big breath of air to calm himself. He stared down at his shaking hands, and smiled wide. "I-I think it was, Kacchan!" Izuku exclaimed, feeling over the moon with what he was getting ready to say. "I-I think I have my quirk now!"
