I finally get to my art class and of course Wyatt Torres is in this class too. I'm surprised when he sits next me. He doesn't say a word and neither do I. We literally don't speak the entire time until the teacher finishes with her syllabus explanation and lets us do our own thing.
"So you're dad, Francisco Preza is a billionaire who owns hella hotels isn't a trump supporter? And a 16 year old girl from Manhattan, New York, who also is a very wealthy isn't a trump supporter?" he asked.
"So a white man, with white privilege, you know cause you're white. From a very small conservative town. Who clearly doesn't have anything else to worry about but my family and I, isn't a trump supporter?" I say.
"Ouch, I was just joking" he says.
"Mmm didn't sound like a joke" I'm very annoyed at this point. "What's your problem?" I sound like a bitch now, I can see it in his face expression that he doesn't like it.
He takes a pause and the bell rings, I start standing up.
"My problem is your dad, Mr. Billionaire, is tearing down one of the only homeless shelters in Orlando to build a stupid ass hotel nobody needs" he says. "He may not be a trump supporter but he's still just a rich guy that only cares about making more money, and not people who are in need" he says. He sounds serious now and I'm worried. My dad wouldn't do something like that.
I don't say anything, I just walk past him to my next class.
He's in my next class, sitting far away from me. I'm sitting with Amalie and she keeps talking about herself and all the years she's lived here.
"... like I know D and I have been friends for so long but I just now caught feelings for him-" she says as I interrupt her.
"What's his deal?" I say as I stare straight at Wyatt.
"Wyatt?..." She says.
"Yeah. Wyatt Torres" I say. "He seems to know a lot about me but I know a nothing about him, other than he works at that coffee shop down the street."
"There's really nothing to know. He has two younger brothers and he lives five minutes from the school, his mom works at Pops......" She says this as the girl from the coffee shop walks in.
"Val" everyone yells out as she walks straight across the room towards Wyatt. She gives him an hug and sits next to him, they seem a little close.
"And that's his girlfriend?" I ask Amalie.
"His best friend, they're not dating, but i'm pretty sure they're endgame. What's all this interest in Wyatt?" she asks.
"Just trying to get to know everyone. You should give me some pointers for cheer tryouts" I say as I stand up. "I'm a dancer not really a cheerleader" she gets up as well.
She teaches me some of the cheers we're going to learn in tryouts. It is super easy. I was worried I might not make the team but.. after seeing the cheers... not to sound conceited or anything but those cheers were a lot easier than I thought. I mean I don't know why I expected more from a small town school cheer team.
After drama class, I head to tryouts, for some reason tryouts are during seventh period, good thing my seventh period is gym. I head over to the locker rooms with Amalie and change. I put some black biker shorts on and a matching black sports bra, I also put on my white dance shoes. I go into the gym and there I see Tera. She's already showing girls cheers as if she's captain. I can tell Amalie is annoyed.
"Okay girls let's line up" Amalie yells as we approach everyone. There's only around fifty girls who are going to tryout. Amalie says there's only 2 spots open for Varsity, that's what I'm aiming for.
We finish up and as I head outside Amalie runs towards me. "Congrats, you're on Varsity!!" she yells and gives me a hug.
"What! Am I actually?" I yell with excitement.
"Yes!" She yells jumping and still hugging me, I start to jump too.
"Wait! For real, not just cause you're biased?" I say. In serious mode.
She laughs, "Girl, I don't really pick, our coach does"
"So I really made it?" I ask.
"Yes" she yells and we start screaming and jumping again.
I catch a glance of Wyatt on his skate as I walk towards my car. That reminds me of what I have to ask my dad about when I get home.
