Dedicated to my friend that I sometimes call mom, for the heck of it. I hope you like it, even though it's only a one shot now. <3 Her drawing of Luna Sargeant at the side -->
Luna Sargeant had just finished putting on her outfit for her shift. When her uncle thought of turning his restaurant, The YumYum Tree into a bar at night, Luna was kind of uneasy when his uncle told her first. Somewhere deep inside, she had a feeling that she’ll be taking the late shift, serving to drunkards who no longer have their thoughts straight. Of course, nobody would care on what she has to say, she needed the money after her mother blew off all the money they had left after the father died.
Setting down the curling iron, she looked at herself. Her long blonde hair was now a wavy cascade. Her uniform, was hugging her thin form a little too tightly; she had her white button shirt and a black skirt that goes just above her knees. She fixed her stockings then slipped on her black pumps. Add a briefcase and you’d be heading to business meeting, she smiled at her thought. This was the way her uncle had told her to dress up, to be a little more attractive then she already is. Her uncle wouldn’t say it directly, but she had a feeling on what was going to happen on her first shift. She just hopes that the party people would tip generously, after all, the waiters in the restaurant lives off on tips.
It was six in the evening, Luna was walking to the bar, which would be a bar by eight. She was thankful for the other shift she got. When she was just hired by her uncle a few months ago, she had a lousy shift, which was during the afternoon. The only people who would go during that time are the people who would go for their afternoon tea. But she didn’t wonder why there were only a few people who would drink tea in the famous restaurant, even she can’t afford to eat at The YumYum Tree, then again, she was broke. But there was one person who always made her feel better during her shift.
It started on the fifth day of her shift, it was two in the afternoon and five lads were entering the restaurant. She was the only one taking a shift in the afternoon, so it didn’t matter where they sat.
“Welcome to the YumYum Tree, right this way.” she said pointing at a table that would fit all of them
“Actually, can we get a table far from the doors.” one of them said
“Certainly.” she lead them to the back of the restaurant, next to a couple who were almost finished and were just about to get the bill.
All the lads looked up and she realized that she was waiting for One Direction themselves. She thought to herself, remember to keep it together, Luna.
“I’m Luna and I’ll be your waiter.” she said then handed them their menus
She took out her notepad to take their order when the couple from the other table called for their bill. She smiled at them and gave a sign that she’ll be there in a few moments, but the couple wasn’t having it. She was in perfect distance to hear what the couple was saying while she was waiting for the lads to order something. The couple started to get angry, the man said he was going to be late for an appointment, but then the woman got confused. Apparently they had plans, but the man had other things in mind.
“I’ll get back to you lads.” she said to them. The lads nodded and so she went to the counter to get their bill. She started to think, it wasn’t her business but being a waiter, you can observe a lot of things. Luna had a theory that the couple has been having problems, for starters, the man wanted to be at the back of the restaurant, he was hiding from someone, perhaps that someone was a lady looking through the glass when they entered. She brought the bill to the couple, the man looked at the bill and then slipped the money.
Then the woman started to compliment her on how the food was great and how Luna was a great waiter. The moment Luna realized it, she knew something was up. They continued to praise her until they left the restaurant. She immediately opened the bill and started to mutter to herself “Damn those who tips you orally. They think that they can get away with it by compliments. Compliments can’t pay for school.” she hadn’t realized that the lads were just at the next table and might have heard what she just had said. She approached them and then started taking their orders. They didn’t give their orders immediately, most of them were containing a laugh and some were surprised with what she said. The others still haven’t decided on what they want.
