Mile Monday

I walked through the hall, the same one I walk through everyday, music blasting in my headphones. When I got to my locker, I quickly unlocked it and got the stuff for my next periods. The same usual routine I go through everyday after lunch, just wanting the day to be over. I shut my locker and walked to my next class.

The next class was Phys Ed, and today was Monday. Mile Monday. Yay. I walked to the locker room and changed in the bathroom stall. It's always so awkward changing in front of all of these stupid kids, all so excited to run today. Ew. I got out and put my clothes in my locker, tied up my shoes and ran out to my spot on the bleachers. 

"Ready to head out, kids?" Mr. Mueller said, in the most unenthusiastic voice ever. We all walked off the bleachers and merged with the girls class, then walked out to the track and got behind the start line. "And your time starts... Now!"

All the kids took off sprinting, but I stayed back and just paced myself. I run the curved parts of the track and jog the straight, and I usually make it within the 16 minute time-frame. 

Around my third lap, a kid caught up to me. "Hey, you're uh, Adam right?" he said, between breaths. "We have the same math and ELA! Now that I think about it, I've seen you in science too." He flashed a goofy smile at me, and I looked at his hair. So messy in that little ponytail. "And you are?" I asked, trying not to smile. He's kinda cute. "Kai! But my friends call me uh.. well, Kai. Haha!" Cute. "Cool. What lap are you on?" I said, slightly smiling. "I think my third? Maybe, I don't know haha! I don't really keep track and just hope I run four.." I laughed a bit. He smiled his goofy smile again. So cute. 

After the mile, I ran to my locker to get changed and couldn't stop thinking about that kid, such an adorable mess. I went to my next class after getting changed. ELA. I remembered Kai saying we were in the same class, that means he's in honors too. I went in and sat down, and noticed him waving at me with his silly smile plastered on his face. I waved back, smiling a bit. He was sitting so close to me, how could I have never noticed him? Now that he was in his regular clothes,- a colorful sweater and some yellow ripped jeans - I realized how fun and bright he was. Seriously, how could I have never noticed him? 

During the second hour of ELA, during passing period/break, Kai passed me a little note.

"Here's my discord, spinning kai!!#2150 :)   - Kai!!!! <3"

I chuckled at the silly name, so adorable.
