Game of Chance

Looking out the window, the sun shone brightly over the horizon. Shading my eyes with a pair of large framed Givenchy sunglasses Seokjin oppa had given to me as a welcome gift. After that day, the day I met superstar Seokjin Kim and his family in Los Angeles, they invited me to stay with them in their home.

With a freshly pressed Caffe Americano in one hand, I slide the balcony door open with the other. The Kim's had a very large apartment that they owned at the top pf the Hilton hotel, which had six bedrooms and four bathrooms. I knew that they shared the master bedroom and bath; their children shared a room down the hall from them and used the adjacent bathroom. For me, they gave me the second largest bedroom at the opposite end of the apartment, with my own bathroom and balcony.

The room was huge, with stunning decorative furniture. The walk-in closet provided enough storage space for six college students' wardrobes. I did not have that much clothing, but at least I had the room for it. But how long will I stay with them?

I sat in the patio chair on my balcony, staring out towards the sunrise. Each morning was perfect. Perfect weather every day of the year. Perfect atmosphere. I never wanted to leave. Plus, I really liked the Kim family. Seokjin oppa was always very sweet. His girlfriend Nell always invites me on outings. And the children already loved me and call me auntie or big sis; depending on their moods.

I truly felt like I was part of the family. But was it really...real?

After being dismissed by my so-called friend nearly three months ago, I am constantly worried that my new friends, total strangers, would suddenly abandon me too.

After finishing my coffee, I decide to dress quickly; Nell mentioned yesterday about going to the Sacramento County Fair this weekend and I wanted to tag along. I throw on a black & white striped sleeveless shirt tucked into a knee length pastel pink skirt. I add a jean jacket to accent my outfit and tan slip-on.

Briskly moving into the living room, I find the kids playing Legos on the floor.

"Sissy! Sissy! Come play with us!!" Soojin shouts excitedly, waving me over. Seokjun decides that it was the right time to stand and knock their tower over. I rush to them quickly, as Soojin begins to cry. I do my best to comfort and encourage her to build a new tower.

"Good morning Sorah." Nell enters the living room, dressed in a pair of skinny jeans and what looked like one of Seokjin's dress shirts, only tucked in front. She sits on the floor with us to help rebuild Soojin's tower.

"Um Unnie....I mean Nell!" She chuckles.

"It's okay. Call me what you want." She kisses the kids on the head and starts for the kitchen and I follow close behind her.

"Um, okay. Unnie...." I hesitate, waiting for her response. But she just nods and smiles at me while she gets a travel mug. "Um, I was wondering if I could come along to the fair this weekend." I fidget uneasily with my fingers. I really like living with the Kims and I don't want to miss out on fun activities.

"Of course! I wouldn't dream of going without you." She pours her coffee like she does every morning and comes around the counter to be closer to me. "Plus the kids would freak if you didn't come." She gives me the matter-of-fact look and winks.

Sometimes I wonder if she's using me as a nanny for the kids or really sees me as a friend...

"Oh!! By the way, do you have plans for tonight? I bought tickets for all of us to the Dodger game." Shocked, I feel like I'm about to lose my balance. An actual baseball game at Dodger Stadium sounds amazing! I've been hoping for this experience since before my move.

"I was hoping you'd want to come." I gasp a little, realizing I hadn't replied yet.

"Really?! Are you sure?? What about Seokjin? Wouldn't this be better as a family event?" I feel my chest tighten a bit. I don't want to disturb their lifestyle by always tagging along. But I also don't want to be left out. Plus.....Seokjin is always sooooo handsome. He is my favorite celebrity who was kind enough to share his home with me.
