Characters of "Haikyuu!" and "Haikyuu! To the Top!" are not mines, rather Haruichi Furudate's. This is a work of fiction, some aspects of the original plot will be added in, but the plot in this story in particular is my friend and I's alone.

I am in a predicament, to say the least. Sitting across from me at the opposite end of the room, was the only girl in this house aside from me. The adults decided to have dinner at Bokuto's. Us girls decided to leave our parents alone, seeing that it was quite clear that they were close friends. Our dispute from earlier was painfully fresh, and it wasn't because it happened hours ago, but rather her words stuck with me.

A loud sigh echoed in the room, diverging my attention from my thoughts to her. "Like I said, if you have something to say or you're feeling uncomfortable, just say it instead of letting me beat around the bush."

"Ha? What makes ya think I was thinkin' 'bout either of those?"

"Please, don't flatter yourself, Sakusa-san. I may be dumb, but I ain't that dumb enough to not know how to read the room. You're still obviously hung up over what I said to you earlier."

"If ya know, then why bother askin' me?"

Her hand smacks against the floor. "Because I don't know what's bothering you!"

"Well, good! Maybe I don't wanna tell ya what's botherin' me!"

"Then stop oozing out your restlessness! It's pissing me off!"

"Then ignore me!"

"... You know what?" Bokuto stands up; "Never mind, forget I said anything. It's obvious you don't want to resolve this." She then proceeded to exists the room, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I stared at the door, before heaving a heavy sigh. Great. Now I feel even more shittier than before. I looked up to her art gallery on the wall, inspecting each photo carefully. She was different than what the rumors about her described her as. Wild, reckless and an airhead, that was what you'd hear often when talking about her. To my surprise, she was well-respected in the volleyball community, and I've always wondered as to how and why. Her play style amazed me. She stands instead of crouching when waiting to receive, but somehow manages to get the ball high in the air or towards the setter without a hitch. But I think what caught my interests was her switch in personality when in and out of the court; it was like she was a whole other person. Almost like myself, in a way.

*knock, knock* I glanced up, startled. Father stands in the doorway, with Daddy standing behind him. "Mind if we come in?"

I looked away. "Do whatever ya like, not like this is my room or anythin'."

Both came in and sat besides me, Atsumu on my left and Kiyoomi on my right. The dyed haired male looks to me while playing a strand of my hair. "Aria came to us and said she mighta upset ya earlier." Huh? "So we wanted to check in. Anythin' botherin' ya, Ki-chan?"

"Wait what? She went to get ya? But why?"

My lookalike but male, placed a hand on my head. "She's brutally honest."

"In a nice way!"

"Yes, Atsumu, in a nice way. Though I don't know where she gets that from, since one of them is dumber than dumb and the other is just quiet."

"But enough about her, this is about ya. Talk to us, we're here, we'll listen."

I breathed in a sigh. God, jus' where do I start? "Well, for starters, I feel like shit." I felt a rub of reassurance on my back; "Insecurities are even shittier than communication. She's a nice person, real nice. But I-... fuck. She wasn't what I expected. I thought she was like the rest, thought that I'll hafta go through the same bullshit again." Fleeting recalls from hours ago and just earlier came flooding in my mind. I grit my teeth; "That wasn't the case."

"So in short, you feel bad but can't get yourself to apologize."

Atsumu stretches himself out before laying besides me. "People fear what they don't understand."

Kiyoomi looks to his husband in disgust. "Who are you and what have you done with Atsumu?"

"Hey! I'm tryna be serious here, Omi Omi!"

I smiled softly. "Heh. Really? I couldn't tell."

"Oh, whatever. Point is, bein' yerself is harder than people wanna admit. Anyone can relate to that. It's okay to fail, it's okay to get hurt and be hurt. That jus' means ya can try again."

*knock, knock* We looked up to see Bokuto near the doorway. She and I made eye contact, but she breaks away first. "The food will get cold." And with that, she leaves us alone once again.

"Now I made her uncomfortable. Great, jus' great." I got up and headed downstairs. But not before I heard my parents whispering about. What they were whispering, I couldn't make it out.

"...-will be somethin' else, huh?"
"Maybe-...-I'm glad, surprisingly."

What? Oh, whatever. I'll ask 'em later. I yelled over my shoulder. "What are ya both whisperin' about? Did'ja not heard her?"

"Comin'!"
