The next I knew was waking up in this really bright room. My head was pounding and I couldn't speak. I tried but nothing came out. I tried to move my head to look around but it would only go so far. In that little space I could move, I made out 4 people. Yeah, 4 people! My mom, the school nurse, T, and dreadfully. Ugh I can't even say his name. Jackson. I tried to talk again but instead this came out.
"Wah, Wah, What?" My mom rushed over to me. She smiled and said with tears in her eyes,
"Baby we are going to the hospital. We were waiting till you woke up. Ms. Cole thinks something might be going on." I then looked at T. I tried to point to him. It didn't really work but I think he got it. He walked quickly to me. He looked at me with tears welling in his eyes. I told him,
"It's ok, and I'm so sorry." He looked at me and nodded with a smile. Then very suddenly I heard the doors slam open. I lifted my head to see who it was. Aunt Jessica. Then, a woman behind her. It was Ms. Kim. She looked so furious. I was sure steam would come out of her ears. She looked at T and Jackson. She said with a very stern voice,
"Boys go back to class right this minute." T looked back at me. At the same time Jackson started walking to Ms. Kim. Then T turned to Ms. Kim.
"I'm not going back. I'm going to the hospital with Bree." T spoke out. Jackson got an angry expression on his face. Seconds later Jackson said he was staying too. Just as Ms. Kim was about to return to class, Guess who came into the nurses office. Yup, you guessed it. Jackson's girlfriend. Without any warning she pulled Jackson out of the room and down the hall. T looked at me with a face of success. Mrs. Kim looked at T,
"You need to get approval from your mother to stay here." He nodded, took out his phone and dialed a number.
"Sure but I don't want to see your grade in that class go down, do you understand me, young man?" His mom said over the phone.
"Yes Ma'am" He replied. He nodded his head as a signal she said yes. Mrs. Kim then walked out of the room. My mom tried to help me up. She slowly lifted me up, thanked the nurse, then walked out with Aunt Jessica and T following her. After a 5 minute walk from the school to the parking lot where my mom parked, we found my mom's car. I sat down in shotgun with T in the seat behind me and my Aunt Jessica in the seat behind my mom. My mom pulled out quickly and in a hurry. When she finally got on the road she went at least 70 miles. After a 10 minute drive we pulled up at the hospital. Something weird happened when we pulled up to the hospital. I remember T. I had met him in the 1st grade. He was my best friend. Then he moved to New York and I forgot all about him. That's why I feel so close to him. I've known him for 11 years! That's why he has been so sweet to me. That's looming in my mind while we all get out of my mom car to the entrance of the hospital. My mom smiles at me and tells me,
"Sit down while I sign you in." I nod and her and my aunt Jessica go to the front desk while I sit and wait with T.
I look at him and whisper, "1st grade"
He chuckles, "What?"
Then I told him "Yeah remember we were best friends in first grade. Then you moved here to New York while I was still in Houston."
T looked at me. I was afraid I had the wrong person in mind.
He smiled, scratched the back of his neck and said, "You remembered"
Just as he finished smiling my mom came back from the front desk and with a worried voice told me, "Come on Bree they need you get settled in a room."
T looked startled. After a 20-minute walk around the hospital which was not very comfortable because I had a really bad migraine and felt like I was going to puke, I finally got into my room which was actually pretty big.
I looked at my mom and I asked, "Do you know when the doctor will be coming?"
She replied very calmly, "I don't know when but, a nurse will be coming in soon to give you a gown and put an IV."
I guess my mom saw that I freaked out because she came up next to me and said, "You will be fine baby." And held my hand tightly. Then after 20 minutes of all of us playing card games and talking, the nurse came in with a giant needle and a gown. She explained very perky, "Okay sweetie, this is what you're going to do, you're going to go to the bathroom right over there just five steps away. Then undress. Then put your clothes in this bag" She said pointing at a plastic hospital bag, "and then put your gown on, then when you come back you'll lay down I'll put your IV in and start you up on some fluid before we can give you some more medicine okay?"
I nodded not even knowing everything she said. I just kept thinking needles and IVs and freaked out. I slightly nod my head up and down and she smiled at me. I walked into the bathroom and it was pretty big I was like, "Oh yeah! I'm heaven!" Then I remembered I was at the hospital and was back to reality. I quickly undressed, keeping my socks on because it was freezing in my room and I put the gown on and walked back out.
She told me, "Okay! Put your arm over the bed like this and I will draw some blood then put an IV in."
I looked at my mom and then back at the nurse and told her, "I'm scared of needles"
She reassured me that I would be fine. I looked at T then my mom, then Aunt Jessica, then I looked back at the needle. Then after 5 minutes of that the nurse actually wanted the needle to go in. I look at T. He walked to the other side of the bed and grabbed my other hand that she wasn't taking blood from.
He looked at me and tightly squeezed my fingers and said, "it's okay I've got you nothing bad will happen while I'm here."
I can't lie, that was one of the sweetest things I've ever heard in my life. Then out of nowhere the nurse started counting.
She said, "1,2,3."
Believe it or not but, before I knew it I had a sharp pain in my hand. I looked at the needle. It was already taking blood. I squirmed a little bit.
Then looking at my mom I ask her, "What if they take too much blood?!!"
She chuckles lightly and calms me down by saying, "It's okay you're fine they're just going to take a little bit."
She stroked my hair reassuringly. At that exact moment the nurse pulled the needle out of my hand. I think she tried to finish quickly because I was afraid of needles. She replaced that needle with an IV needle. She hooked the end to a bag of clear liquid. I had no idea what it was but it kind of looks like water maybe was Saline. I don't even know. T let go of my hand and my mom swooped in and told me I did a good job.
She asked me, "Are you hungry?"
She looked at the nurse, "Can she eat?"
The nurse replied sweetly, "Wait until Dr. Allen checks her and sees if she needs any scans."
My mom slightly nodded. The nurse stood up and walked quickly out of my room.
