Waking up to the sound of chimes is actually more startling than it seems. I jump a little, my eyes wide open for a second before I close them again. But this alarm means I have 15 more minutes to sleep Good. I think. The more sleep the better. First day back to school will be interesting.
"Natalie- Er, um..."
"I'm up." I call. My mother sigh's in relief. Yeah, I bet. It's hard for you, but do you need to sound so troubled? I grumble to myself and pat the bed for my phone. Finding it, I hit play on my music. It wont be a start to a good day without good music. My logic. Really I just need something to focus on that isn't sleep. I crawl out of bed.
Binder... There it is. Deodorant, no, not that one, the man one. Found it. Hmm. Underwear, in the drawer. Sock cock... I think it's in the bathroom. I dawdle about my mussed up room looking for jeans and a t-shirt. Dressed, kind of, I walk downstairs to grab the pop tarts my mom put in the toaster for me. Mmm, chocolate today. Chugging my glass of milk, I make my way towards the bathroom. Brush teeth, mouthwash, milk breath is gross. Not like anyone is going to be talking to me to notice, but I can still take the time. I make an effort on my hair. School bag... couch.
"Ten minutes, sweetie." My mom calls.
"Kay." I plop on the couch with my bag in my lap. The news is on. Looks like it's going to be decently warm today. I leave my sweater on the peg.
The car ride is a bit awkward. My mom is trying to ignore me with out really ignoring me. She turns he radio to my station and takes it a bit faster on the hills so my stomach flops a bit. She's babying me. We pull into the line for drop off and a song she knows comes on. She starts singing it, it gets to a point where the word is "daughter." she stops singing. I get out of the car early.
"I love you honey!" she shouts through the passenger door. I grunt and slam it shut.
This is going to be such a wonderful day.

Looks good. I think. I head off to Mr. Woodruff's room for my hell. Whoops, Algebra 2, I mean.
Finding a seat towards the back, I notice I'm really early. School doesn't start for another 15 minutes. The teacher isn't even in here. I pull out some notebook paper and scribble him a note.
Mr. Woodruff,
I know my name says "Natalie" on the roster, however, I prefer Griffine. I will be signing my papers like this and expect to be called by this name and male pronouns. Thank you for your time and consideration.

I walk up to his desk and lay it on top of the class list. Right when I sit down, the passing bell rings and the teacher walks in. He is tall and thin, wearing a sweater vest over a button up shirt and jeans. His hair is longish, where he had to brush it out of his eyes, and it is pure white, although he doesn't look past 60. He reads the note quickly, looks at me, and writes something down. The minute bell rings its shrill sound and the class piles in. To my surprise, most head toward the back. Some even eye me a bit. Weird.
A tall blond girl sits to my right. She has brown eyes and a slim nose. Freckled cheeks. Her figure is thin, not too curvy, but she is still pretty.
