Chapter 12: Reunion

"Ouch...my back hurts.." Aether woke up with a sore back once again. He slowly sat up, rubbing his back. He then looked down to Xiao, who was still soundly asleep.
He smiled and then turned his gaze outside. Their bed was next to a window so they had a perfect view of the scenery. The wind flowing through his hair. Suddenly, he heard groans. He turned to Xiao to see him slowly sitting up and rubbing his eye. Aether smiled and kissed Xiao on the cheek. "Morning Xiao!" "Mmm...Morning.." Aether could tell that he was still half asleep. Xiao leaned his head onto Aether's shoulder. Aether giggled and kissed him on the forehead. "So, is there anything you want to do today?" It was quiet for a moment. Aether looked to Xiao. He had fallen asleep again. "pfft- silly yakshia."
30 minutes later, Xiao finally had fully woken up. Aether had already gotten out of bed and got dressed. Xiao rubbed his eye once again, searching around the room for Aether. "Oh, your finally awake." Xiao turned to Aether who was sitting at the table, drawing. "what are you doing?" Xiao slowly sat up on the edge of the bed. "I'm just drawing..." Xiao got up with the blanket wrapped around him since he was still undressed. He walked to Aether and stood next to him. Looking down at the paper, he could see a girl. "Who's that?" It was silent. "....it's...my sister.." Xiao could see droplets of tears falling into the paper. Xiao wrapped his arms around Aether with the blanket. He dug his face into his shoulder. Aether perked his head up. Wiping his tears, he slowly got up from the chair. "You should get dressed, I want to go somewhere." Xiao yawned and went to the bathroom. Few minutes later, he came out, dressed and ready. Aether quickly made the bed and off they went.

On top of Mt. Hulao, they spent most of their day there. They spent their day just talking. Aether mostly talked about his sister. "Aether, how was your sister like?" Aether sighed. "She was very special to me..." Aether leaned his head on Xiao's shoulder. "She's the only family I have left...we would go world to world together, having fun!" Xiao grabbed Aether's hand. "Before we came to this world, there was an unknown god that was in our way. She took my sister." Xiao could hear Aether's voice breaking. "You know, she was the one that would braid my hair. Back then I would just let it do it's own thing." Aether chuckled a little and grabbed his hair. "I-I'm sorry, I'm just rambling at this point." "No, it's okay. I like it when you ramble.." Xiao played with Aether's hair for a little.
"We should head back.. it's getting late." Aether sighed and slowly got up. He grabbed onto Xiao's hand, helping him get up. As they walked down the mountain, Aether quickly turned. "What's wrong love?" Xiao turned to Aether. He could see that he had a concerned expression. "I...It's nothing, sorry. Let's just keep going." Xiao began to be concerned. But he brushed it off.
About 10 minutes later, Aether had done the same thing. He quickly turned and had a concerning look on his face. This time, Xiao wouldn't just 'brush it off' this time he asked, "Aether? What wrong?" Aether stayed silent for a moment. He sighed. "There's...something here, something is following us...." Xiao grew a confused expression, slightly tilting his head. Aether started to walk back up the mountain, Xiao followed.

They were now almost on top of the mountain again. "Aether, are you sure that something's here? We've seen nothing so far." Xiao made sure to stay close by Aether. "I'm sure somethings here, I can feel it." Xiao sighed and continued on. They've now arrived at the top. Aether suddenly stopped, causing Xiao to bump into him. "Why'd you stop?" Silent. He could hear that Aether was having a hard time breathing. "Aether, are you okay?" He grabbed on his shoulder. Aether just stared. His expression changed into shock. He could see tears building up. As he looked towards the water, he saw a person. It was a girl. She was wearing a white dress with gold and blue. Her hair was blonde and short. He was just standing, looking in the opposite direction. Aether finally spoke up. "L...Lumine?" Xiao turned to Aether. He had heard the name Lumine before. That's when it clicked. The girl that was standing there was...his sister. Xiao quickly turned back to Lumine. She slowly turned to face Aether. "Aether..." She stared blankly at him. "Lumine! Where have you been!" Aether fell onto his knees, tears flowing down his cheeks. "I've been all along. I guess you haven't noticed." Xiao was in a state of shock and confusion. "I.." Aether was having trouble finding words. "I was there for it all, I saw the wedding ceremony." Aether thought back to that. He remembered how he felt something on one of the mountains that was surrounding the area. "You...you were there? For it all?" Lumine simply nodded. Aether had a million thoughts running through his head. Xiao was on his knees sitting next to Aether, trying to calm him down. "Please, let's just go home!" Aether yelled desperately. "Home...of course home is wherever we are together.." Lumine looked down. She started to walk towards Aether. But then quickly vanished into thin air. Xiao became defensive. All of a sudden, Aether was unconscious. He had been knocked out. Xiao saw Lumine running up to him, before she ran away, she whispered into Xiao's ear. "Please, take care of my brother." Xiao quickly turned, but nothing was there. She had vanished once again. He looked to Aether, tears were still streaming down his cheeks. He carefully picked him up and put him on his shoulders. He then swiftly ran all the way back.

When they arrived back home, Xiao carefully placed Aether's unconscious body on the bed. He lauded next to him, hugging him tightly. It was late and sleep was overpowering his body. But he did t want to sleep. He wanted to make sure that Aether was okay. Eventually, he gave in and let sleep take over his mind.
