Grief was a terrible beast. Such great tragedy, sorrow, heartbreak, and loneliness have the ability to break a man down to his core being. In a fit of blindness, caused by the overwhelming emotion of losing a friend, a sibling, someone you hold dear--mistakes are made.

It's common. It happens all the time.

Although, in the aftermath of the recent fire; James had made a horrible mistake. An unforgiving, horrid, monstrous mistake.

Thud, thud, thud.

Loud and heavy metallic footfalls sounded against the floor of the mall, steadily thumping closer to the darkened shop that he was currently hiding in, tucked away in a corner in hopes that the animatronic wouldn't be able to see him if it did just a quick glance within the entrance of the dimly-lit store. Discarded items lay strewn about the floor in a chaotic mess, likely having been dropped or knocked off the shelves in the people's' attempt to escape the beast that they had seen lurking on the bottom levels of the mall--James didn't know why he hadn't run with them when he had the chance, though perhaps he might've, if the animatronic hadn't caught sight of him after he witnessed what it had done to one of his coworkers by the fountain. His heart was racing far too fast for him to think through things clearly.

He shut his eyes tight, trying to block out the sound of impending doom that lurked a mere few footsteps away. Why had he done it?

When faced with the result of his mistake, he didn't know. He didn't know what he had expected to happen.
