I DIPPED my head towards the ground, I studied the creases in between the stones and ran my eyes over each strand of dampened grass. Brown hair streaked across my face, flattened to my scalp, and across the back of my neck from the heavy rainfall. My legs crossed in front of me as I sat on the hard ground of my backyard.
I wore only short pajama pants and a top. Nothing else. The hissing of the rain was in slow motion as it collided with surfaces, each droplet sounding like thunder to my ears. It parroted the deadly crack of a fired gun, causing me to jolt upright from my former position. My lips took over an unnatural blue as the cold overtook me.
I looked down at my hands, twisting them around. My palms made contact with my face, completely numb and dead. My fingers curled inwardly scrapping the surface of my face in the process. Detaching my weak limps from my head, I stared up at the sky. Raindrops fell onto my features, hesitating, then trailing down.
I took a deep, quivery breath inward, repeating it outward. I nodded to myself. I knew it wasn't real.
I needed to accept it...
