nagito was wandering aimlessly around the school halls, he certainly owed the teacher at least one assignment handed in on time. of course he had no reason to not do his work and he always remembered to bring it into school once he'd filled it in, most likely because of his luck. he just never found himself with enough time to complete it on time so he often simply gave up on his homework and just didn't hand the majority of them in, he'd hit rock bottom; but even then, like always, it wasn't the same-or even a similar experience as everyone else had. the rock bottom he'd hit was more of a sad attempt at mimicking rock bottom. nagito never had the official thing he'd want, so everything felt cheap to him, even rock bottom. however, he recently reached out to his crush, hajime about his feelings for him, and the feelings were returned. both of the boys decided to start dating and it had been going well for three weeks. nagito was taking the relationship seriously and he would've been heartbroken if it'd ended. he'd been paranoid about something messing up and ruining everything, as he had enough problems happen in his life. like the time he boarded a hijacked plane with his family, only for his luck to bring down a miniature meteorite to strike the man controlling the plane, ultimately ending his life but also hitting his parents and killing them. or the time he was kidnapped by a serial killer in middle school, or even when... never mind. not to mention the multiple diseases he'd faced, though one seemed harmless and didn't affect his appearance so much like the other but instead messed with his mind. of course that one was only a simulation but it sure as hell felt real, when he tried so desperately to ask hajime to stay with him through rough times but the only words that came out were "all alone with hajime, huh... i can't stand being in the same room as you. hurry up and go away. i don't want to see your face anymore." when he knew he meant the opposite. he even suffered from frontotemporal dementia which just made everything else even worse. hajime was literally his only hope at this point so you can see why he cared so much about their relationship, it truly was the only thing he had control of so naturally, it meant a lot to him. he turned the corner after daydreaming about his boyfriend, he swiftly released his bag and collapsed after meeting paths with his form teacher. he quickly stood up and collected his stuff to look somewhat formal after such an embarrassing encounter. "i-i'm sorry mr. morrow, i had no intention of bumping into you like that, i must've spaced out while walking through the corridor i'll be leaving now." nagito said, fixing up his outfit-straightening his tie and such. "ok, have a good day, komaeda" the teacher gave a quick friendly smile to nagito and began walking  past him. nagito heard a soft chuckle from the classroom next door, the type of sound one lets out while holding back a laugh. he briskly turned to face the source of laughter, only to be met with his lover, hajime. "oh yeah, very funny" nagito mocked as he approached the other boy. "all i did was walk into him, everyone experiences that in school." he placed his bag gently on the ground as he slowly pulled a chair from under a desk. he seated himself on it quietly and simply stared at hajime, lovingly. there was a fair amount of light entering the classroom through the windows plastered on the wall in a line formation. "what?" hajime asked, softly laughing "hm?" nagito realised he was looking at hajime for an overly extended amount of time, with no context and apologised. "no it's okay." said the brunette, he looked down at his homework thoughtfully and began writing something, flicking his wrist ever so slightly. "it's...cute." hajime said. 'yeah, cute. nagito is cute. sometimes i forget we're dating and i find myself holding in the romantic remarks but, i then remember we've been together for weeks now, and it's normal for lovers to communicate this way.'  he thought to himself. nagito's cheeks were tinted with a rose-like colour as he looked at his hands, and began fidgeting them from the absence of tasks to fulfil. "hey, do you wanna maybe... stop by at my place? of course only once we've both handed in our homework-if you even did your homework, that is." hajime asked, he gained nagito's attention easily and the ever so slightly taller male tilted his head upwards slightly to look at hajime. "yeah, that'd be fun. thanks, hajime." he answered. "ok, cool." the response was quiet and simple, nagito believed that was how all conversations should end, just a small agreement can make someone really pleased. that was something he loved about hajime, they never fell out. after around ten minutes hajime spoke up once again, "ooo-kay, i've finished my homework, do you wanna hand yours in too?" nagito looked up and smiled innocently, "sure." both of the boys stood up, one by one and walked happily to the exit. the halls weren't too narrow, so they both walked next to each other, holding hands. they exchanged minor conversations while making their way to the floor above. nagito paused in his path to enter his form room while hajime continued walking forward. "uh, hajime?" nagito gained the shorter boys attention, "yeah? oh sorry-" hajime realised he walked too far and stepped backward a few times to be level with nagito. "are you ok? you seem off today." nagito mentioned cautiously, "yeah, i'm fine don't worry about it." hajime confirmed, before walking into the classroom. "hello, boys" spoke the teacher. "hello mr. morrow." they both spoke, "what do you have there?" their teacher looked at hajime's book, "just the homework i did." he responded, placing it on the desk. "i also have my homework i wanted to hand in." nagito took his bag off his shoulder, and opened it. he pulled out the yellow book and piled it atop hajime's book. "well, thank you. i'll be sure to mark these. also, well done nagito, this might be the first homework you've handed in before the deadline this school year." the teacher stated, "ah, yeah sorry about that..." nagito rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. "ok, you boys are late to leave the building. go home and have fun!" hajime nodded and turned around while nagito hiked his bag onto his back, ready to leave the room just like he entered it. nagito and hajime walked out the classroom together and sprinted down the corridor, down the stairs and past the classroom they had met up in earlier. they open the doors and walked across the road, and around a few blocks. once they were stood before hajime's front door, the brunette opened the door and held it wide open for nagito to enter. "thank you, hajime." nagito gladly strutted into the house and walked straight to his bedroom. "i'll get us some pop to drink, you can chill in my room and we'll work out what to do after that." hajime explained, while making his way past the shoes at the entrance of the house. he travelled to the kitchen, opened the fridge door and pulled out some irn bru. he poured it into two cups with straws and checked the lids were on tightly. nagito sat down on the carpet in front of hajime's tv with his legs crossed, staring into his reflection. hajime closed the fridge door, strolled into his bedroom and sat down on the carpet near nagito. he leaned over and pulled the cat-like beanbag he called a doorstep and shoved the door shut with it, only to throw the beanbag at the door afterward to make sure it didn't get caught on the carpet; which would have prevented the door from completely closing-if the door didn't completely close, there would be no reason to even shut it at all. hajime quietly placed a cup next to nagito's left leg and the other to the right of himself. "alright, what do we do now?" nagito asked impatiently. "we can... kiss." hajime requested, nagito went bright red. "ok then, too soon. how about we play video games together?" that was a better recommendation. "y-yeah. let's do that." nagito was still flustered from hajime's first request. hajime stretched his arm toward the pile of video games next to the tv. he silently placed one in. "how's animal crossing?" hajime awaited nagito's nod in consent. "sounds great!" nagito was more happy that he could spend time with his boyfriend, many people hadn't such luck and nagito truly cared about spending time with hajime, no matter what they were doing. "just the other day i found out how to play in two player mode. i thought it wouldn't work at first since you obviously don't have a switch, but then i remembered we can use one controller each. so which one would you like?" nagito smiled. "i didn't know you cared so much about me, hajime." his smile was so heart warming when it wasn't forced. "of course i care about you, i love you." nagito stifled a chuckle, "ok, i'll use whichever is your least favourite controller." he requested. "so, you don't mind the blue controller, right?" hajime checked. "of course not." nagito picked up the blue controller, meanwhile hajime connected the nintendo switch to the tv and picked up the red controller. nagito clenched his controller in excitement.  hajime turned the game on and toom nook appeared, quoting 'hello, everyone. this is tom nook! it's 5:06 pm this happy saturday, june 19th, 2021.' "ah, i guess we spent two hours after school doing homework, then. hah." nagito laughed to himself. 'there's really not much news today, so instead i'll share some valuable tips about papgoomyaa living!' "oh, that's the name of my island by the way, it's an ongoing joke, nothing important..." hajime explained, his cheeks were red with slight embarrassment. 'i'd like to share a little info that might just improve your quality of life here on the island.' nagito giggled. "pap goom yaa?" "it's a long story, ok?" hajime waved his controller in front of his knee, getting quite defensive. "i just wish i knew the story behind that name." nagito said, calmly. hajime pressed harshly on his controller, skipping the text once or twice. 'do you want to make big, bold changes to your personal style too? if so, i have good news for you!' hajime sighed, "he never stops speaking..." 'vanities, mirrors, and other items used for checking your looks can be used to change your looks too!' hajime pressed another button. 'from hairstyles and colours to your very face, you can enjoy being the you you want to be every day!' "hmm..." nagito hummed, hajime looked at him. "what is it?" he asked, genuinely interested. "we could make anyone on this game...?" nagito seemed like an evil villain plotting a crime. "i'm still not getting the hint." hajime said. "we should make teachers from our school!" nagito was incredibly excited for such a plain idea, but hajime thought it would be fun. "i agree, we'll do that in a second." nagito chuckled at hajime's words. 'that's all from me! bye now!' the brunette dismissed tom nook's words, as a black border engulfed the tanuki. the same hajime-like character appeared in front of a miniature house and closed the front door behind itself. "awww! it's you but even cuter!" nagito pointed out. "haha, yeah. ok, now to make it two player..." hajime scanned his controller for his memory to spark up, then he'd remember what combination of buttons he'd pressed to play in multiplayer. "was it..." hajime mumbled to himself, pushing random buttons on the front of the controller. he grunted out of frustration. "ok, i'm really sorry nagito but i don't remember how to make it multiplayer, are you ok just one of us playing?" hajime said, already feeling awful for the day not going how he wanted it to. "that's fine, i'm ok to just watch." nagito wanted to leave it at that but he had an idea. "oh, i know what we can do!" hajime looked over "what?" he asked. "we can play single player but we still share the controllers!" hajime gasped. "yes, perfect let's play the game like that. ok so you still need a tutorial on how to use controllers, don't you?" nagito nodded with determination, his eyes were almost sparkling. "ok, so... you have to push the joystick forward to walk forward, pull it towards you to walk backward and left and right are obvious. it's not mirrored or anything stupid. any questions?" hajime tried his best to make consoles understandable to nagito. "yes, what's a joystick?" nagito asked, seeming really interested. "that thing." hajime pointed at the joystick and prodded it slightly. "ahhh, i see." nagito confirmed he understood, prepared to move on to the other instructions. "the buttons in a diamond shape are for swapping tools such as axes and fishing rods. you can pretty much skim through your tool selection back and forth with the left and right ones, and the bottom button is to un equip the tools. however i can access the tools as well if that's too confusing, it's just faster. as far as i know the top one does nothing but i haven't tested it yet so feel free to do so. any questions?" hajime was almost out of breath after explaining so much, he could have forgotten the actual controls for his controller at this point. "nope." "ok, great. now you'll notice there are more buttons on the top of your controller, lucky for you they serve no purpose, unless we designed clothes then that would be a different story entirely." hajime mumbled the ending of that sentence to himself as it wasn't necessary. "oh that's great, then! i wouldn't want it to be too complicated." nagito smiled brightly. "ok, perfect. let's play then." hajime was excited to play with nagito, he expected to dislike it as he wouldn't have control over the character, but somehow it made it more exciting when he thought about how he couldn't predict what nagito would do next. "so, uh... where do i go?" nagito questioned. "you can go wherever you want, but if you want to go to the mirror, you'll have to go to the right." hajime said, nagito followed the instructions and pressed the joystick to the right, moving the character along. "wow, it's surprisingly fast for such a small person." nagito laughed, being unfamiliar with the anatomy of an animal crossing character. "you think that's fast? watch this." hajime held down the b button on his controller, making the character sprint to the side. "what are all these things on the ground, hajime? there's lots of leaves." nagito asked, "oh those are items, i couldn't fit them in my inventory so..." hajime couldn't be bothered to finish that sentence, it was obvious what he meant. "i see... and why were you carrying so many leaves? do they not serve a purpose?" nagito was just curious about the leaves now. "that's just the logo for that tanuki we saw earlier, he's a main part of the game, so the game developers made it the logo for items when they got too lazy to make images of them." "ohhh." nagito spoke in understanding. "whoa there's a river here, cool...how do i get across it?" nagito asked when his character suddenly stopped walking at the barrier of the land. "if you remember the diamond shaped buttons, press either the left or right one a couple of times until you get a little pole with a red stripe on it." hajime explained, nagito did so as the character showed off multiple items. once it held the vaulting pole, nagito paused. "this one?" "yeah." hajime answered, "now walk up to edge of the land and don't stop. i'll use the item." hajime instructed. nagito pushed the joystick, the character walked against the edge on the river and suddenly hopped across, leaning on the vaulting pole. "there!" nagito gasped. "there was even an animation for jumping across a river? this game is really cool, hajime!" nagito said, "ok now keep walking forwards until you reach the small house, then walk up to the front door." hajime said, nagito did so and hajime allowed entry for the character just by pressing the a button. "the inside is much larger than the outside, it's like the tardis from doctor who." nagito remarked, "heh, i suppose it is." hajime responded. "alright, now walk to the pink and white desk and i'll open the character design." nagito followed hajime's instructions once again and hajime opened the character options through the 'cute vanity'. a large close up version of the hajime-like character appeared before the boys on the tv screen, "okay, we can change the skin colour on this page, the hair styles and colour on the second page, the eyes options are on the third page and the nose and mouth variants are on the fourth page, the fifth is for blush and the sixth is face paint and changing the gender of the character. all of these are optional, though so you can leave some as they are if you want." hajime explained in great detail. "wow, that's a lot to take in at once." nagito joked. "who should we make first?" hajime asked, "hmm... how about... mr. morrow?" nagito recommended, "perfect. ok, which skin tone would you say is accurate?" hajime asked, awaiting a response. "bottom left." nagito responded. "i agree, what about... the hair?" "third along the bottom row, the colour should be dark brown like his real hair." nagito said, hajime chose those options, then turned to the third page, "what eyes?" "keep the ones you have just without the eyelashes." nagito started, "oh, and make them brown. mr. morrow doesn't have yellow eyes." nagito complained. "they're not yellow, they're hazel. if i made myself in a game, i'd make it accurate, my eyes aren't yellow." hajime lectured nagito, "i didn't know you felt so strongly about your eye colour. don't worry, i think your eyes are beautiful, no matter what colour they are." nagito said, calming hajime down from his strange lash out. "is the face ok, now? should i change the mouth?" hajime asked. "i like the triangular nose, it's accurate but mr. morrow wouldn't have a cat mouth like that. he'd probably relate more to the second mouth." nagito said. hajime changed the mouth to the one nagito requested. "are the cheeks ok? i know the blush doesn't make sense, being orange-ish but..." hajime, again got lazy and didn't finish his sentence. "yeah, i like the blush. nice choice, hajime!" nagito complimented, while hajime switched the page to the final page, staring blankly at nagito. "should we make face paint for him?" he asked jokingly, "why not?" nagito agreed, "we should make clown make-up!" hajime quickly pressed the face paint: custom design option, and scrolled past a few designs he'd made in the past. he clicked o one he'd erased so it was blank and he didn't have to go to through the trouble of removing the dotted plus centred around the custom design. "ok now the buttons on the top of your controller will come in handy, to change the colour of the paint we use, however if it becomes too confusing i can always take control and draw the makeup all on my own." hajime explained, "yes, could you please take control. i'll simply watch you design the clown makeup." nagito smiled, again. "ok, sure. if you get bored, you can go on my phone and do something entertaining. i should be finished with the makeup within minutes." hajime offered. "thanks!" nagito picked up the phone laying on hajime's bed and turned it on. he scrolled up past the lock screen which was a generic image that comes with the phone when you buy it. he reached hajime's home page and looked through the apps, he saw whatsapp and hesitated, believing it would be wrong to snoop. he told himself it was normal for lovers to look through each other's phones, what would hajime be hiding? clearly nothing since he was offering his phone to nagito for him to look through. nagito slowly clicked on the app and read the contacts. 'nagito' , 'mum' , 'dad' , 'orange juice' were all nagito could see, his attention was reeled in by 'orange juice' , who would hajime call orange juice? saionji, maybe, her kimono was orange, after all. but why would hajime have only saionji and nagito on his contacts? nagito instinctively tapped on orange juice to read the messages. nagito read the most recent message: 'i hafta head to school, see you later babe xx' sent by 'orange juice' 'what? babe? who's he to call hajime babe? unless it's a woman, but hajime's gay, right? right? is he lying? does he even love me? hey, don't say that of course he loves you. you're dating him, after all. yeah if he weren't gay, he'd have nothing to hide. but if he weren't gay, he wouldn't love me. has he been using me? no, no calm down, nagito he wouldn't use you. hajime is too hopeful for a good relationship. or multiple relationships... excuse me? that's so rude, he wouldn't cheat on me, i know hajime and he wouldn't do that. are you sure you know him?

i--don- -t-k-now--a--n-ym-o-r--e---s-hou--l-d-i--j-ust--gi-v-e--up--?'  nagito's thoughts were arguing, again. he shook his head and scrolled higher and read through their messages from the day before. 'how was your day, babe?' - orange juice, 'it was terrible, i had to spend two whole classes with trash-maeda.' - hajime 'that's not even a good insult, i could give myself a worse one right now-wait. that's not the problem, why is hajime even insulting me? and to someone anonymous?'  nagito thought to himself, filling with sadness, then anger. was hajime cheating on him? "hey, hajime?" nagito spoke, "hm?" hajime responded, "who's orange juice?" hajime stopped fidgeting his fingers atop the controllers, his face fell blank. "hajime?" nagito checked if he was ok, "what?" "why do you call each other babe? am i really trash?" nagito was growing more and more upset, each response he gained just cause him more pain. he stood up and walked to the exit. "if you don't really love me, that's fine. i just wanted happiness." nagito left the room and made his way to the front door. "nagito, wait!" hajime stood up, and ran to follow nagito. he wanted him to stay, "nagito, you're my number 1, orange juice was just a backup. i was afraid you'd leave me because i'm talentless." hajime tried to make his story sound acceptable. it wasn't fooling nagito. "i don't want your pitiful excuses, hajime. you can make orange juice your new number 1, because i'm single now." nagito shut the door and ran down the street. then he ran a block. then 2. then 3. he wouldn't stop running until he felt better. he ran where he didn't recognise, he figured he'd been over at hajime's house so often he knew the neighbourhood as well as hajime did. if nagito didn't recognise it, hajime wouldn't either. it was his chance to escape his sorrow, and he took the chance. he found himself surrounded by tress and tall, abandoned grass not soon after taking a random route. he walked forward, if he turned whatsoever, he might end up walking back to hajime's house, which would be disastrous. after a couple of hours and speaking to himself about what he'd just experienced, he saw a large mountain. he walked toward it and found a hole, he figured he'd nothing to live for. hajime was his only hope and now he'd lost him, he served no purpose. nothing served a purpose anymore. he climbed slowly down the hole, prepared to starve in there. he couldn't locate the bottom of the hole, he continued to crawl downward. the further down he feel, the more chance of dirt falling on him, ultimately suffocating him increased. or maybe, it would fall straight down his breathing pipe, then he'd choke to death, he didn't mind either way. he just wanted to stop functioning. in a small place like a hole was peaceful enough to die in. no one would disturb his corpse, he'd truly rest peacefully. he began climbing down the walls and eventually lost grip and dropped extremely far down. everything turned black. all sound was cancelled out and he felt nothing.
