I've decided that Emma's uncle lives in paradise. It's true that my home planet is beautiful but there's nothing like Hawaii on it. I walk out onto the patio of my room and take in the beauty of the mountains and the ocean. The colors of this island are so vibrant.
The shower is outside, which makes this place even more magical. The water has been warmed by the sun. I shed my dirty clothes and look forward to washing off the dirt from the ocean. It feels like we've been on a long journey even though it's only be a short time since we left Emma's home. I know it can't be easy for her as she comes to terms with her new role in the universe. I can't imagine being plucked from obscurity and told I'm to be the queen of a planet I never knew existed.
My father always said I was too concerned with other people's feelings. I have always worried about the happiness of others. But father feels that is a weakness. And if it is a weakness then it's a weakness I am prepared to live with. I would rather show compassion than a tough exterior to those I care about. In Emma's case, I believe she will embrace her new role if she feels part of the decision to be queen. Forcing her into it will only frighten and push her further away. At least that's my hope. And I hope the leaders agree with me. I'm prepared to take on my father as we have always been different in our approach, but to take on the entire High Council is another thing entirely.
I realize I took a long time getting ready. I throw on the clothes that Uncle Luke placed inside my door. They fit well enough. I open my door just as Emma opens hers. She walks out of her room with her long blonde hair brushing her bare shoulders. She's wearing a strapless Hawaiian dress that hugs her curves and makes her look much older than her youthful teen years. She's a vision to behold.
"You look ..." She twirls for me. "Gorgeous."
"I've always wanted one of these dresses."
"It looks amazing on you."
"Thank you."
"Shall we?" I extend my arm to her. She takes it. We walk toward the dining area.
"What do you think I should do?"
"About what exactly?"
"About my future."
"That's a fairly broad question." Emma stops and grabs my hand - a questioning look in her eyes.
"I know but I really need you to tell me what you think I should do. I know you will think about what is best for everyone - your people, everyone here on Earth, my family, you and me. I trust you Joe. Please give me your guidance."
"Emma, you give me too much credit."
"No, I don't. You are highly intelligent and you care about people. The way you have protected me, even from your own father. You aren't afraid to do what's right. You see the big picture and understand the importance of the small things. Of anyone in this entire universe, you are the one person I would entrust with the path of my future and my life."
"If that's the case then I hope you won't be disappointed when I say that you must come to the decision for your future on your own. I am prepared to make sure you have the time you need to decide your fate, but I can't provide you with the answers. No one can. Each of us must determine our own path."
"And that is why you haven't handed me over to your father and the other leaders of your planet?"
"I'm fairly certain they are regretting their decision to send me to bring you home."
"Well, I am grateful it's you. Thank you for giving me time. And for your protection. I know you are risking your life and your future for me. I promise I will be ready soon."
