My heart was pounding, I could hear the blood rushing through my veins, in fact it was the only thing I could hear, the pulse seemed to match up with my feet, as my right foot hit the ground, BOOM, my left foot hits the ground, BOOM. I finally spotted the old blue tree fort ahead attached to the side of the big red wood tree. As I stopped in front of the tree I finally realized how out of breath and tired I was. I slowly bent over and put my hands on my knees trying to catch me breath, when my breathing patterns levelled out I looked up at the tree fort it was about 30 meters above me, notched cut out from the tree ran. I reached my hand up, slid my hands in the notches and tightly held on as I started climbing up the side of the tree, when l reached about half way I grabbed into the rope and started to shimmy up, feet braced against the tree.
When I reached the top I slid my right foot from the notch and placed it on the balcony. After I pulled myself up I walked over to the door way cautiously,
"Destine???"
My eyes widened in shock as I stepped into the door way, past the quaint room in the other balcony's doorway, I saw a pair of legs with those familiar aqua flip flops and the toe ring made of gold. I remember getting dizzy and light headed for a moment, I remember stumbling over tears -welled- in my eyes. I stood at the end of her feet, looking down at her. she was face down, a branch probably twice as wide was on top of her, she must have been on the swing, I always told her that it would break. the widest part of the branch on her back and the thiner end on her head. A pool of blood was forming around her head, I was panicking. I quickly dashed over to the branch and wrapped my arms around it, I let out a grunt as I lifted the branch off Destine, Thank god for those weight training classes. I slowly turned still holding onto the branch and dropped it over the edge of the broken railing. I turned to look a Destine, upon seeing how much blood had pooled around her I rushed over I quickly scanned the gash in her head I ripped of my sweater and pulled out my pocket knife. I sliced it in half down the centre, then cut off the sleeves. I folded the piece without the serve and placed it over the gash, I then tied the other piece around her head to apply pressure. I slowly and carefully turned her over ad placed her head in my lap. I closed my eyes tightly as a few tears left my eyes, they slowly rolled down my chin and plopped onto Destine's forehead. I looked down at here face just in time to see Destine's eyelids flittered a little and a few drops of blood leak out, I gasped loudly which I guessed alerted her.
"C, C, Caia is th, that you???"
"Destine it's okay, your gonna be ok, we will make it through this, I promise!"
"Caia, don't make promises that you can't keep"
I slowly bent over her and lightly placed my lips on hers, I had been waiting to do this forever.
"I promise I love you Destine, and this is a promise I know I can keep" with her eyes still closed her lips turned into a small smile. I knew I had to keep my promises.
I carefully swept Destine up bridal style and took her into the room and placed her on the lazy boy, grabbed one of the clean bedding sheets from the dresser and tied strips of it around her head and eyes. I then took two pillow cases and ripped the seams, I ripped one of the half's in half and left the other as is. I took one of the whole pieces and wrapped it around her wrists for padding then tied them together with another strip. I picked her up diligently and placed her on the dresser sitting up with the help of the wall. I stood with my back to her and slipped her tied hands over my head and around my neck, I grabbed her legs and slipped off her flip flops, I tied her feet together on front of my so that I was not holding her up. I then realized that this would put a lot of pressure on my neck and her arms, I grabbed the sheet now partially soaked with blood and tucked it under her butt and on her back and tied it on my stomach. I reached back and checked her pulse it was slowing and getting weaker by the second. We were running out of time. I could tell that she could need a blood transfusion immediately, it was a good thing Destine and I share the same blood type, we were both AB+. I started repelling down the wall as quickly and carefully as I could with all the extra weight. when I reached the bottom I took of running, When Destine's arms started to pull against my throat I pulled my arms behind me and lifted her up a little. I darted out of the forest and ran through the park. once I hit pavement it got easier to run, it took my about 5 minutes to reach the hospital once I got on the streets. I ran into the emergency entrance and started barking out orders.
"I need a gurney, and doctors right away, she's lost a lot of blood so she's going to need a blood transfusion right away and I'm a match"
I must have taken everyone by surprise because nobody moved
"Move!!! This girl is dieing!!!"
A nurse wheeled over a gurney and tried to untie the knots, I yelled at her to get behind Destine and support her, once she did I whipped out my knife and cut the sheet around my waist first then her legs. I carefully turned, Destine's arms still supported by my neck I picked her up and placed her on the gurney. I slid her arms off from around my neck and cut the bandage, I checked her pulse it was barly there, just then I look up and see a crowd of doctors and nurses rushing over, I quickly bend over and give her a quick kiss on the forhead. while they wheeled her to the operation room I quickly say that Destine will need a blood transfusion and that her blood type is AB+ and that I have the same type. a nurse comes over ad takes me into another room to take blood, I couldn't look as she pulled out the needle, it was huge and needles are my number one fear. after she was done she led me into the waiting room and over to the receptionist, Shelly the secretary gave me a horrified look then slid the phone towards me, I ignored it then called Destine's mom and asked her to bring my clothes that were at her house up to the hospital, when she asked what was wrong all I could say was.
"I'll tell you when you get here"
