Zoe waved a goodbye to her new colleague ( that one blonde skinny girl whose name nobody could ever remember),and started to walk down the street.
She stood upon the corner,in the light of a street lamp. A full moon hung overhead.She requested an Uber. But,even though she got multiple rides,they would suddenly cancel when they reached Havergal Street.
It was as if something were scaring them away when they reached that specific point.So she sighed irritably,and gave up, resigning herself to walking.
At least it would only be a mile .Douxie had just sent her a voice message. She lingered in order to listen to it and respond (before heading home to binge watch the Danger House movies whilst feasting upon butter - flavored popcorn and M&M's.)
" Heyyy Zoe...uh...erm...well, thought I'd send you a message. Here's my belated apology for standing you up. How're the niffins doing these days ? Reproducing successfully, living productive lives , existing as contributing members of society?"
She recorded / sent a reply:"Not funny, Douxie. Do you have any idea how hard those little monsters bite ?! BTW,the next time you change our plans without a word,I will sic the goblins on you . This is not a joke."
He responded:"Alright love,I swear I won't do it again."
A muffled voice was heard near him, exclaiming "you just called her 'love ' .
Douxie whimpered softly in horror. "Oh no ..."
The last thing she heard before the message ended,was an endearingly embarassed groan from her friend , laughter from Archie,and what might've been that Eternal Forest - nymph giggling .
She let out a laugh herself,and grinned fondly at the image of poor Douxie's horrified face .
His handsome face ,with the irises of muted gold,that winsome smile,the indigo streaks adorning his raven hair ...
He is your friend. Don't be stupid.
She shook her head to clear a crowd of buzzing , scattered thoughts.
And then,she looked up .
