Book #6 it is revealed that Yashiro only has less than a year left to live and that is why she was able to contact and interact with Hanako. Only those close to the nearshore are able to interact with apparitions. Examples of those close to the nearshore would be those with the natural ability to interact with supernaturals (such as the Minamoto clan, a powerful exorcist family that Teru and Kou Minamoto are a part of)or those who have little time left alive. Now, if this is true, then how did Natsuhiko and Sakura manage to come in contact with/be bound to Tsukasa? We know they are not apparitions as they were able to interact with those far from the nearshore. (Ex. Natsuhiko coming to Yashiro's classroom and classmates being able to see him) So either they're both born with the ability to contact the supernatural or they don't have a lot of time left.
