"You have got to be kidding me," said a tired, dry voice. A boy, about 16, trudging through deep snow, somewhere deep in the Alaskan tunnel.
"Quit winning, Simon. We're almost to the city!" said the man to the boy, bringing his coat collar up over his mouth the protect his nearly frozen face from the cold.
"A city all the way out here? Really?"
"Yes. It's where you'll be going to school!"
"I'm going where? A school all of the way out here? Right."
"I'm serious! Remember how, a few weeks back, your arm changed into the novel of a gun? Well, that's normal in this world. I've just kept it from you because I didn't know what you were. In fact... I had hoped I hadn't needed to show you any of it. Too bad I have to. You could've lived a normal life."
"Great. So, you're telling me I'm not normal. Thanks, Dad. You sure do know how to make me feel special and not bad about it." The boy's voice overflowed with sarcasm.
The man chuckled, "Right, well, it's not like I could just let a weapon run free in the midst of humans. Without proper training, you could turn into a Tear... which is why I didn't tell you about it. I have no idea how you'd act."
Simon decided not to say any more. He knew his father knew what he was doing. He'd rather not ask anymore. If his dad wasn't messing with him, there was a city out here, and it's where he'd learn to control whatever strange ability he had.
The details were fuzzy, but it was still a cool thought.
About a month ago, Simon had been rubbing a deep cut he had gotten from a fight with a kid at school. The kid had pulled a knife on another, Simon tried to step in, and ended up getting hurt before the teachers arrived. Anyways, trying to ease the pain, he rubbed his arm. Suddenly, as if he had triggered some mental button, his arm began to shift. The pain, and, for that matter, every feeling in his arm from his elbow disappeared. His forearm and hand melted and reformed as a gray mass: a gun. A straight nozzle, ending with a thorny opening. When he fired it, an iron stake imbedded itself in the wall. And that's when he called for his dad.And then, they were here. In Alaska.
And now, a strange city.
Harmony City, located in the middle of the Alaskan tundra.
The entire city was in a circular shape, surrounded by a low wall, maybe only 8 feet tall, with crosses connecting by the crossbar all across the top. The wall seemed untouched by snow. There were no skyscrapers, only small businesses and homes. Snow covered every roof, but the streets and sidewalks were clear. Only one building stood out from the rest. It looked like a huge circus tent, not in the middle of the city, but at the far back, touching the wall. From Simon's perspective, it was touching in the middle of town. Everything seemed to circulate around it. The tent's colors were black and red, with a giant sword sticking straight up in the middle where a flag normally would've been. The sword, however, had a flag flying from the point that read Bound Together Academy.
