Ace

"Heya! You must be Harley! I'm Eden, nice to meet you." The blonde woman exclaimed as she stuck out her hand for me to shake. Her nails were bitten to the quick and I shuddered at the thought of biting my own nails. 

"You must be here for Ace! I have him all tacked up for you, I just have to tighten his girth and you can hop on him." Eden said as she skipped over to the huge indoor arena. I shoved my Champion hat onto my head and tied my long blonde hair up. When I got to the arena Eden was holding a beautiful chestnut gelding. He had a light copper coat and two white socks on his front left and back right legs and a pretty star in the middle of his, deep, chocolate brown eyes. I came up to him and gave him a polo before Eden gave me a leg up.

"Ace is a gentle giant. He has no vices and he will really help you improve, he is quite old but he can still work like a 4 year old, after a good warm up though." Eden said as she walked alongside me. I felt so tall on Ace, even though he was 16.2hh I had only ever ridden the lazy, 13hh riding school ponies.

After warming him up in walk with Eden nattering on beside me I popped Ace into trot. Oh my god his strides were so big and floaty. I felt like i was on a cloud. His long, elegant legs stretched out in front of him, flicking his hooves as he pranced. I did some 20m circles with him and gave him a good trot warm up to get his mind working. Eden then asked me to canter. I sat deep into his, old, squeaky saddle and asked him to canter.

"If you thought his trot was nice, his canter is even better!" Eden shouted from across the humongous arena.

After warming him up well Eden set up a 40cm jump for me to get Ace over. I hadn't jumped big horses before and I knew I would get Aces stride wrong but I tried anyway. I confidently cantered Ace up to the jump, counting his strides in my head.

'One... Two.... Three.... Go!' Ace flew over the jump and landed neatly. I gave him a pat and popped him over it again.

As I was cooling off Eden walked beside me again.

"You ride him really well, lots to improve on but you look amazing on him, we would love to have you at the yard." Eden announced to me as I walked Ace around.

"Really!" I gasped. " I would love to!"

"Great, cool him off and un tack him, I'll show you his field when you finish." Eden said as she walked off to start mucking out.

I was so glad I was able to get a loan horse. It was the start of my riding journey to becoming and eventer.
