Tears run down my face as I shove my most important belongings into my duffle bag. I clear all my clothes off the hanger and shove them into a black garbage bag. I go into the bathroom and put my toothbrush in my bag also. My mom stands at her bedroom door watching me with her arms crossed.

"Madison you are being over dramatic" she says with a sigh

"Mom I can't take this any more!" I yell out with a sob

"Where are you gonna go? You have no where but here, your dad is 2,000 miles away. He has his own life sweetie" she says in her fake empathetic tone. Her boyfriend comes out from the bedroom and stands by her. He does nothing but stare at me, not saying anything.

"I will figure it out" I wipe my eyes with the back of my hand. I walk down the stairs, knowing this is my last time I will live here. I'm done with all of this. Everything. The years of manipulation. A different guy every week. No food to eat. Eviction notices. I can't take it any more.

I walk out the door, wishing my mom would at least attempt to stop me; even though I won't change my mind. I find a covered bus stop and decide to wait there. I take out my small flip phone and dial my grandmas phone number.

"Hello?" I hear the familiar soft voice at the other end of the line.

"Grandma?" I feel the tears coming again. Her sweet soothing voice makes me want to loose it.

"Madison? Are you okay sweetie?" I hear the worry in her voice

"I guess. Can you come pick me up? I'm by the bus stop across the street from my house" I sniffle

"Of course. I will be there as soon as I can." She says

I feel relief and embarrassment wash over me.

"Thanks grandma"

I shut the phone I wipe my tired puffy eyes. I wait until I see the familiar grey Toyota. I stand up and watch her pull up to where I'm standing. I get in to the warm car and greet my grandma, pulling my bags into my lap.

"What's wrong Hun?" She asks. Most likely she knows the answer already.

"Mom and Eric" with a blank expression. Knowing this all to well.

"I'm sorry. Well let get home and fix you up." She says exactly what I want to hear.

"Looks like you aren't going back I guess?" She looks over at my two jam-packed bags on my lap.

"I don't know what do" I purse my lips. I don't know how to deal with it all.

Once we get to my grandmas house I am greeted by her two dogs. It feels overwhelmingly calm and relaxing here. She sits me on the couch while I hear her rummaging through the kitchen, filling up a tea pot and putting it on the burner. I sit there fiddling with my thumbs until she comes back with hot chocolate and a piece of cinnamon sugar toast. My favorite treat she made for me when I was a kid. She sits down next to me

"Do you want to talk about it?" She says quietly.

"Not tonight" I say pushing on the mini marshmallows until it is submerged in my drink. I take small sips until I don't want anymore, I put it in the sink and look at the clock, it reads 8:30 but I'm beyond exhausted and ready for bed.

"Would you mind if I went to sleep?" I ask

"Of corse honey the room is ready for you" she gets up and gives me a hug.

"Thank you so much grams"

"Don't thank me sweetie. Sleep tight don't let the bed bugs bite"

I bring my bags into the guest room and close the door. I get into some comfy clothes and sink into bed for the night.
