Destined for greatness, Ella found herself grappling with the bitter aftermath of two unsatisfied patients' reviews. Disheartened by the suspension handed down by the head dean, she stormed out, determined not to let six years of hard work be overshadowed by a couple of negative critiques.
In the underground garage, frustration radiated through her until a familiar voice cut through the tension. Dr. Edword Constable, her neighbor and an unexpected presence, appeared on the scene, suggesting carpooling as a solution to their shared commute.
"Oh, what a coincidence," Ella remarked, masking her irritation.
"Should we carpool today?" Dr. Constable proposed, seemingly oblivious to the storm brewing within Ella. Unbeknownst to him, her anger was overshadowed by the lingering discomfort of a persistent stalker who had managed to slip from her thoughts momentarily.
"All that trouble just to carpool? I don't think getting your car stolen is the first thing on your agenda," she retorted, her sarcasm an unintentional invitation for him to draw closer.
"Not really, although it could easily be replaced, you know what can't? A date with you," Dr. Constable suggested, reigniting an unwelcome pursuit.
"Dr. Ellalia," a timely interruption came from Dr. Sileth, Ella's trusted companion during these challenging days. Grateful for the reprieve, Ella said goodbye to her stalker and allowed Dr. Sileth to take the wheel, acknowledging that her current emotional state wasn't conducive to driving.
"Down your neck again," Ella dismissed the comment, appreciating Dr. Sileth's protective presence.
"Don't want to hear it, Simone," Ella responded, attempting to deflect the conversation.
"Ella," Dr. Sileth paused, adjusting the car radio's volume. "I think he has proved himself enough to be a man worth dating if I were you."
"Listen Simone, I have been there. They tricked me into a date, thinking it was genuine. I went into marriage, then a child, and then a divorce. I-I have been there," Ella confessed, her eyes reflecting the shadows of her past.
"Then why don't you date him?" Dr. Sileth suggested, gesturing to her ring finger. Ella sighed, recognizing the echoes of her own reluctance in Dr. Sileth's hesitance.
"Oh, for goodness' sake, take it off... you see, that's where you have it wrong. I would never spend eternity in hell," Ella remarked, swallowing the truth that lay beneath her words. The memories of her own entanglement resurfaced, but she pushed them aside.
"I love him," Dr. Sileth whispered, drawing Ella's nod of understanding, a silent acknowledgment of the complex emotions entwined with matters of the heart.
As Ella reflected on the past and the choices that defined her present, an unspoken question lingered in her thoughts: how long could she safeguard the newfound stability of her life, blessed with her son, and shield him from the storms that might lie ahead?
