"Beep! Beep! Beep!" I hear my alarm clock start blaring from across the room. I groan and stretch, walking over to my dresser to shut off its annoying screams. I sit on the edge of my bed and give myself a moment to completely wake up before I pull my sheets up on my bed and fix my pillows. Once my bed is neat enough I grab my uniform from my closet and open my bedroom door.
"Morning Abbie!" I look down the hall to see my younger brother Aiden completely dressed and ready for his first day of high school. He was younger than me by four years and was my complete opposite. While I was quiet and shy, he was energetic and outgoing. He wasn't always like this, but as soon as our dad left he changed completely. He makes decent grades and is always out with his friends now, avoiding home as much as he can. Though, on days like this when we have no choice but to spend time together I cant help but recall the old version of him. The one that had no problem with telling me that he loved his big sister. I gave him a quick wav and disappeared into the bathroom.
"Abigail!" I hear my mother call from downstairs, obviously worried we wont leave on time. She needed to drop us off quickly to go to work, which meant I did not have time for a shower. I put on some deodorant and washed my face, not bothering to respond to my mothers calls.
"Abigail! Now!"
"I'm coming, one second!" I yell back at her and finish getting ready. Walking down the stairs I see Aiden already waiting at the door. As I grab my bag, my mother walks out of the kitchen, holding a coffee mug. She takes one look at me and her scowl grows.
"Abigail, please go do something to your hair before we leave. You don't want to look bad for the first day of senior year." She gave me a look that gave no room for any argument.
"Okay, okay I'll fix it." I walk over to the hallway mirror and fix my hair. I run a hand through it to remove any knots and quickly tie it up into a ponytail. I face her and wait for her look of approval but it never comes. All she does is sigh and mutter something under her breath.
"It's good enough, now lets get going." Walking to the car a lump forms in my throat as I start to wonder what this year would be like. A bunch of guesses popped into my head but nothing was certain. All I knew was that any wrong move I make this year could change my life forever.
