The Smell In The Apartment

I had lived alone for about 3 months. The apartment I was in originally was a house that got
bricked off into two apartments. When I first moved in there was an awful, stinging rot smell. It
seemed to be coming from the wall that connected to the other apartment. It lasted for about a
month. I thought nothing of it. I worked at a library and had heard around the grapevine that the
house was a historic landmark. It had eventually been removed from the list for having a brutal
murder occur inside. I knew no details of the murder, but knew that the body was never found. I
came home from a long shift at the library and flopped on the couch. The AC turned on and the
smell was worse than ever. I gagged and almost vomited on my floor. I stood up and started
walking around looking for the source of the smell. I found the smell was the strongest at the air
vent that was from the splitting wall. I did vomit this time. I passed out and woke up with police
officers and paramedics surrounding me. I was on a gurney and was just being pushed out the
door. I looked back and saw my wall torn open and a hanging body swinging there, the face
shriveled like it was hundreds of years old. Dark red splotches were on the hanging body’s
yellow dress that I could only assume was a wedding dress. Years later after I had moved
entirely away from that area, I heard what really happened. 80 years ago, before the house was
separated a marriage ceremony was going on. The groom had caught the bride cheating on him
with his brother and had murdered her. To cover it up, he hired and bribed a contractor to hide
her body between the split wall. To show what would happen to any other women who cheated
on him, he had installed a door that was eventually caulked over. Now 80 years later, the wall
had been torn down and the decaying body had been discovered. The groom was identified andput in jail for the rest of his short life. After his death nobody had moved into the apartment and
