Undoubtedly one of the most fascinating mysteries still unsolved in Adyssia, the castle in the sky has been a source of wonder and folklore even before the first wars were fought and kingdom borders were either won or lost. Many scribes, adventurers and indeed several astrologers, have speculated over the origins of this curious sight, with their assertions ranging from probable, to utter madness!
The first such probable cause, is an explanation offered by Ranga - a scribe from Kendirah and close friend of mine. He suggests that since the castle only appears after Adyssia experiences heavy rains, it could be in a way, our very own rainbow - perhaps a reflection somehow caught up in the skies and preserved through the ages by some sort of spell or enchantment we are yet to officially encounter.
I am inclined to agree with this line of thought, for just like rainbows, one can see the castle as clear as day, but try as they might, none have ever been able to reach and actually touch it.Others insist that the castle is indeed real, and existed on dry land before it and all its occupants fell under a powerful curse - one which translated them into the skies above, forever looking out but unable to escape. If this is true, then one cannot help but gaze in awe and shudder at the thought of a witch, wizard or druid with such magical ability, dwelling within our midst.
Some in support of this theory, have suggested that it was truly a curse, but one which was created and cast by the father of dark magic himself - Nerlim. While others claim it was in actual fact, the doing of the ancient queen of the sorcerers, Herrah - who after being scorned by a lover, wrought the curse upon him and his entire castle. Naturally, adventurers who believe in the latter, have travelled and traversed across the length and breadth of Adyssia, but none are yet to discover a hidden kingdom missing its castle, or a mass of land showing signs of an entire structure uprooted from the ground. One of the more outlandish explanations, to put it kindly, suggests that the castle is an apparition and that ghosts of Adyssia's Past roam its corridors, watching... waiting, for the day they will finally be released to take their vengeance upon the living!
You may decide for yourself which seems truer than true, but whatever your mind settles, I hope it will not dissuade you from coming to Adyssia.(In hindsight, perhaps I should have left the castle out).
