Leaving everything behind

On that boat full of Irish trying to escape,
I saw plenty of children that were supposed to be you.
On that boat full of men trying to survive,
I saw many women trying to get on it like you.

That day was our last moment together,
I will never forget you my lover.
We were almost a family,
I'm just happy he didn't have to see.

Isn’t it scary ?
How that big blue ribbon can separate death from life.
Should I be happy ?
That Death chose the two of my loves instead of my lost soul.

The world is your oyster, they said,
But my hands still have your blood on it.
You gotta hit the road, mom said,
But I still see her tears on her face.

All over that journey,
people were surviving or dying.
But the thought of your love,
Made me feel like it was worth living.

On that land where everything should be better,
All I saw was the look they would give us.
Suddenly I felt like it was my new home,
My child, this would have been a great land to grow on.
