Three weeks later Sonic was looking for Shadow when he got down to the kitchen he froze after seeing Shadow on the ground.

"Shadow?" he said and bent down to feel for a pulse.

But he didn't get one.

"No." he whispered.

Then he hit the communicator.

"Sonic to Tails and Knuckles." he said.

"Tails here." Tails said.

"Knuckles here." Knuckles said.

"I need you to come to my house now."

"What's wrong?" Tails asked.

"J-just get here now!"

"OK. I'll be there in a few."

"Same here." Knuckles said.

Then they shut off and Sonic was on the ground.

He could tell his best friends and teammates were worried about him.

"D-don't worry Shads, Tails will be able to save you." he said with tears coming down.

Then he saw a knife next to him and he shook his head.

A few minutes later he heard the door open.

"Sonic?" Tails said.

"I-in the kitchen." he said.

Tails and Knuckles looked at each other not liking the sound of this.

Then they ran into the kitchen and froze.

"Shadow?" Knuckles said.

"What happened?" Tails asked.

"Tails, I need you to check on Shadow. H-he's not breathing!" Sonic said and Tails ran over to try and help him.

Knuckles held onto Sonic tight.

"How is he Tails?" Knuckles asked.

Tails looked at them and shook his head.

"I'm sorry, I can't do anything." he said his eyes watering.

Sonic started crying and held onto Knuckles and Tails joined the group and the team held onto each other and cried after losing a friend and mate.

"It's all my fault! If I hadn't had a miscarriage he wouldn't have done it!" Sonic said and cried harder after thinking about losing the baby and now Shadow.

"Sonic it's not your fault. A lot of people have a miscarriage with their first child." Knuckles said gently.

"He's right Sonic. Blaze had a miscarriage last year remember?" Tails said and Sonic nodded. "And it's really not that easy for a man to get pregnant either."

Sonic nodded again.

"We need to get him to the hospital and see if they can do anything." Knuckles said.

Tails nodded and called them.

Then he hung up and Sonic sat there crying with Tails and Knuckles by his side holding him fighting tears of their own.

Twenty minutes later they watched an ambulance take Shadow to the hospital.

"I can't even run right now so I need to grab a Chaos Emerald."

Then he saw Shadow's so he picked it up, shut his eyes but focused then raised his hand.

"CHAOS CONTROL!" he yelled and they were gone.

When they got there they were lead to Shadow's room and saw the doctors do what they could to save him.

Sonic stood there quietly with Tails and Knuckles on each side.

They had him go in the waiting room so they did and called the others.

A few minutes later everyone came to support Sonic.

An hour later a doctor came.

"Sonic Hedgehog?" the doctor said.

They all looked up and Team Sonic got up.

"Yes?" Sonic said.

"We're sorry but, he didn't make it. We tried everything but he was to much gone." the doctor said.

Sonic stood there trying not to cry so he nodded and Tails and Knuckles put a hand on both shoulders.

"Thank you. Can we just go see him one last time?" Knuckles asked knowing what Sonic wants to say.

The doctor nodded so they followed him to Shadow's room.

When they got there Sonic sat there with one of his hands on Shadow's.

"I'm sorry." Sonic said shaking his head.

"Sonic, it's not your fault." Blaze said.

She got no answer and stood there in silence for a few minutes.

Then he started crying again.

Everyone looked at each other then gave him a group hug.

"Sh, don't worry Sonic, he'll always be with you. And we'll be with you the whole way." Amy said.

He nodded but couldn't stop.

"He- he was my mate!" he said and everyone froze in shock.

"What?" Rouge said.

"I could tell he was my mate and was gonna propose to him on his birthday next month!" he said and started crying harder.

They looked at each other.

"That's why he's more upset. He lost his mate." Blaze said.

An hour later Sonic had finally calmed down and it was time to go home.

"I hope you're happy now that you can be with Maria again." Sonic said and gave him one last kiss.

Then he took off his limiters and put them in his pocket and they headed home.
