Most girls would give anything to marry the prince. I mean, I understand why. He is extremely good looking, he seems super nice, and he's going to be the king.
I am not like the other girls. I think it's a ridiculous thing to want to marry the prince. Yes he is good looking and seems nice, but in reality, he is probably a royal asshole. He probably cannot do anything for himself as everything has been handed to him his entire life. Why would I want to marry someone like that?
The prince is coming to the school today to try to find someone he can marry. Almost all the girls in their junior and senior years at Woodward High are going nuts about meeting him. I'm sure that most girls will be dressed in some sort of revealing outfit in attempt to seduce the prince into choosing them. The freshman and sophomores are probably going to dress up too, though none of them will even meet him.
"Make sure you dress nice!" my mom yells down the hall, making sure I dress nice. She wants me to catch the eye if the prince.
"It's just another day!" I yell back.
My mom would absolutely love if the prince chose me. Not because it would help the family, we are perfectly fine when it comes to money, but because she wants to meet the royal family. For as long as I can remember, she has done whatever she could to meet them. It is some weird obsession that she has, and honestly, it is kind of creepy.
I throw on a nice pair of skinny jeans and a loose, almost tie-dyed looking top. I quickly straighten my hair and put on mascara before calling my appearance presentable.
"You could put on a dress," Mom sighs as I walk into the kitchen, where she sits drinking her morning coffee.
"No," I say, "I do not want him to pick me."
"Honey, this is his 5th school, it's a slim chance he is choosing anyone from here anyways! Why can't you do this for me?" Mom asks, sounding disappointed in me.
"Because it's not your future if he does by chance pick me!" I snap, "It is my future! I don't want anything to do with him."
Before she can say anything else, I walk out of the house, get in my car, and start my short drive to the school. I cannot believe how selfish my mom is being about this. She knows how I feel about the prince. Why can't she let me be happy?

••••••••••••••••••

"These girls are pathetic," I tell Nick, my best friend, as we walk into the school, "They do know that he's looking for a wife, not a whore, right?"
Nick chuckles, "They want to marry the prince, Allie. You may not, but they will do anything in their power for the chance."
"I don't understand," I mumble, "he is probably a royal ass."
"Most likely," Nick agrees. "Was your mom going crazy this morning."
"I don't want to talk about her," I tell him.
"That bad?" He asks.
"She's just so selfish," I tell him.
Nick hugs me to his side as we walk, not saying anything. We have had this conversation a million times. Nothing ever makes me feel better about the fact that my mom is so obsessed with the royal family that she would do literally anything to meet them, even if it's forcing me to marry someone that I don't know, nor do I want to know.
We walk straight to the gym. Yesterday it was announced that we were expected there instead of our first hour class. I'd rather be at Nicks with him watching a movie or something.
"Let's go sit with William," Nick says, pointing to the top of the bleachers.
I nod and hurry up the bleacher steps. I sit next to William and Nick sits on my other side. They talk around me for a moment before Nick wraps his arm around me again, letting me lay my head on his shoulder.
It's not long before the prince is walking across the gym floor to a microphone set up in the middle of the gym. Some girls can be heard squealing over the quiet murmur of students talking about the prince.
"Good morning," The prince says into the microphone, "I hope you all are well. For those of you who do not know, I have been going between the schools in your district trying to find the girl I will choose to be my future wife. I have talked to your principal and superintendent, and while I am talking to girls one on one, the rest of you will be playing some games we have set up throughout the school. Girls will be called over the intercom to come meet with me. Your principal will fill you in with the rest of the details while I go set up. I hope you all have a good day."
