Yunmeng Jiang Sect Lotus Pier: Jiang Fengmian Pov.

Jiang Fengmian sighs as he walks through the hallways. Just a few moments ago he had another fight with his wife regarding his adoptive son Wei Ying. The young teenager had pranked one of the instructors again causing him to walk back to his room in fury as well as covered in mud. While Jiang Fengmian was amused by his adoptive son's new prank and the look on the instructor's face as he dredged off the field, as sect leader he must provide adequate punishments for his disciple's misbehavior and set an example to other disciples. So, he had A-Xian go sit down in the ancestorial halls for the rest of the day to reflect on his actions as punishment.

His wife who later heard about the incident was obviously not pleased. She demanded that he punish the boy harsher and that his punishment was far too light compared to the misbehavior he had conducted against a senior disciple of the sect. While he could see her point he could not bear to punish the sweet boy too harshly. When his lady saw through his reluctance she berated him for spoiling and doting on the young teenager too much effectively turning him into a complete menace. Seeing no point in reasoning with her as always he walked away from the argument to give his lady time to cool down.

He looks onto the empty training field where he sees a vestige of a young boy training with a practice sword. He tries to reach out to the boy until he hears a group of shouting and laughing in the background snapping him back to reality. He quickly retracts his hands when the illusion dissipates and is replaced by the empty field. Guilt stings his eyes and burns in his throat when he is quickly reminded of the reason the young boy is no longer there. It was his fault and there was nothing he could do about it.

His child... his son... his only adorable son lost forever all because of him...

It has been 11 years since his son was officially declared as dead...

That day was like any other day and he was walking through the hallways after having another argument with his wife about his adoptive son just like today. As he was passing by the training grounds he heard some noises and scruffles. At first, he thought it was the disciples practicing out of hours and paid no attention. Then he heard shouting and voices that distinctly sounded similar to his son. He carried his forehead thinking his son had probably started another fight. His son Jiang Cheng had a feisty temper similar to that of his mother making him rather quick to fight as a result. He went over to the field to stop the fight when he saw a disciple with a large bruise on his face crying on the training ground whilst his son threw insults at the young child.

Without needing to ask it was obvious from just a glance what had happened. His son had punched the disciple and proceeded to demean him using every insult he had in his book. (Which wasn't a lot since he was a child) Then memories of his wife spewing insults at his adoptive son came into mind and overlapped with his son and the young disciple. He became furious thinking about it. How dare his own child bullies another child like this! After checking that the child was fine, he immediately turned his attention to Jiang Cheng and scolded him. A servant girl who was also at the scene tried to defend him but he instead became more furious looking at her disheveled state which proved that she was involved in a physical assertation with his son. Then it all made sense to Jiang Fengmian, his son was probably bullying the servant girl and punched the disciple as he tried to stop him. His son also tried to speak up against him but he wouldn't allow it. He knew what his child would do if he were allowed to speak up, he would without a doubt push all the blame to the disciple or servant girl like his wife had with A-Xian. He couldn't believe the audacity this child showed and shouted at him in his frustrations.

His son just stood there solemnly after that indicating his guilt in Jiang Fengmian's eyes. However, before he could give out proper punishment to Jiang Cheng, a senior disciple came with an urgent matter forcing him to postpone the matter to another day. Before he left he had his disciples accompany the young child who was punched by his son and the servant girl to the medical ward. He glared at his son making it full clear that this matter was not finished. He then quickly left the field with the senior disciple leaving his distraught son all alone.
