They watched us as we spoke with guns in their hands and cigarettes hanging from their mouths. Toxic smoke trailed into the air as it filled our nostrils and choked our lungs. We heard a cock from one of their guns as they loaded it, briefly interrupting the warlike sounds of the torrential rain pounding upon the house. It was as if God was trying to break down the house to let our innocent souls free. We listened to Him call our names, but the three of us knew it wasn't our time yet. At least we hoped we wouldn't have to meet soon.....
It was difficult speaking in front of a group of armed savage looking men, but if we were to survive, we had to play their game. I and the other man imprisoned with me were not prepared to give a speech to these freaks at all. We were starving, dehydrated, and we had been locked underground in their cellar for a couple days? We weren't sure how much time had passed. We didn't even know where we were. We just assumed we were left in a dark hole to die or that this is what the afterlife looked like.
I know you're probably asking how I got here, but unfortunately, I don't know how I got here or any events before that. The retrograde amnesia was sickening. Whatever they did to me caused me to forget everything. My first memory was waking up in a dark room with chains around my wrists and a piece of duct tape around my mouth. Some rebirth.....
"Go on, talk to us." the leader of the group said as he puffed on his tobacco. My anxious and fearful heart raced in my chest, and my mouth stung from the tape being ripped away from my flesh, but I managed to give him some words anyways.
"I think your pilots are drunk. You need to train them better and implement more standards."
I tried to be constructive in order to save myself. Truth is, I didn't know anything about their organization because my memory had been wiped out, I gazed upon my evil audience as they turned their heads and looked at one another in confusion, hoping they were impressed with me.
"You should also feed them more lettuce. If they are healthier, then they can have stronger minds and create more attack plans." the man added.
I looked over at my ally whose face seemed oddly familiar to me, but I couldn't pinpoint why, or where I had seen him. I recalled nothing vivid from the past. I couldn't deny that he was a handsome man with his straw blonde hair and sky blue eyes. Hopefully, if we got out of this alive, I could try and restart my life and ask him to lunch or something. The audience stared at the man as if he was crazy.
"What in the hell are you people talking about? We don't have no damn pilots!" the leader asked.
"You should also hug them because they deserve love. If you hug your fighters, you will receive greater loyalty in return." the man added. One of the leader's accomplices whispered something in the leader's ear, and the leader listened to him carefully. The leader then turned and cleared his throat after the private conversation had ended.
"We don't play nice here. There will be no love or lettuce as you say, and the nonexistent pilots are not drunk. God, I thought this strategy would work!" He paused and sighed. "Allow me to explain how we operate. We are the leaders of the entire world, and in order to gain our power, we need to kill because the world disrespects civil discourse. Do you understand that?" he asked.
The man and I looked confused, but the man nodded his head, lying about his understanding. I followed suit and nodded with him, hoping this was the right thing to do.
"Alright, good." He turned to his friend and whispered loud enough for us to hear. "See? I told you they retained some information." He then turned to us and continued his speech. "This is the best thing you can do with your life, and we would like you to join our mission and receive an endless supply of rewards. We chose you because you have what it takes to be successful. Wealth and power lies in your future if you come with us."
