I sighed softly holding my cup of tea in my hands.  The dreary February day reminded me too much of what had happened, why my life was so messed up. Rain poured down outside and the sky was covered in stormy clouds, not a patch of blue could be seen. My dad was reported missing on a day like this and my mom couldn’t stand me.  My mom was all right at first but then she started getting worse, getting mad at me for no reason. Finally the dam broke and she left saying she didn’t want to see me because I reminded her of dad. I’m lucky one of my best friends Alexandria and her family took me in, I don’t know what I would do without them. I spun one of my long black curls around my finger, lost in memories.

“Hey Winter, how are you holding up?” Alexandria’s soft voice pulled me out of my hazy state. I looked at her, glad of her presence. Her light red hair framed her face and her green eyes looked at me curiously.

“Fine, Alexandria. I’m fine.”  A bright smile appeared on her face, causing her dimples to show.

“Good, good. I invited Mackenzie over.” Her bubbly voice said, barely containing the excitement to go and do what we used to do all the time, eating. Now we hardly ever get together to try new restaurants.  Mac was our other best friend, the athletic, blue haired, Asian friend who claimed she was just as American as us. Which she was, and she was also absolutely stunning. Her personality drew people in but when someone hurt one of her friends, well lets just say it’s better to be the person she is defending then the person she is getting mad at.

“Well if you invited her over I probably need to get dressed in proper attire.” I grin.  She smiles back and takes in my outfit. Currently I was wearing sweatpants, Bright yellow sweatpants with a bright red top. In short I looked pretty bad. Alexandria sighs and tosses me some clothes. I unfold the clothes to find a grey sweater and blue skinny jeans to be exact.

“Wear your Uggs.” She called over her shoulder. “Also, be ready in 30 minutes.” I run into my room and throw my clothes while grabbing my purse, phone and mophie. I slip on a pair of grey fuzzy socks before putting on my dark grey Uggs. I walk down the stairs to find Alexandria and Mac talking. “Ugh I hate you right now.” Alexandria groans while looking at my outfit. Mac laughs and turns towards me.

“You there, person looking fabulous in that outfit. What’s your name and who are you wearing?” I laughed and shook my head,

“ Still as weird as ever Macaroni and cheese.” She scowls at the nickname before turning to Alex.

“It’s not fair that she gets all the looks, I wanna look that good.”

“Please, I know your just complimenting me because you want me to hook you up with some Greek guys, but I’m telling you that just because I’m of Greek descent doesn’t mean I know anyone. Just like how Alex doesn’t know any Irish people.” Mac groans slightly and sighs.

“Fine, I get it. I’ll stop complimenting you. We should probably leave now though if we want to get to that new burger place in time.” Alex grabs the keys and we head out to her sky blue vw bug.
