Jiang cheng was walking to the room of his brother to check on him as per the instructions of jiang yanli. She had been concerned for him ever since he came back from the war.

Apparently, yanli thought wei wuxian wasn't acting like himself. Jiang cheng would've reprimanded him for worrying their sister unnecessarily but the fact that he too, had noticed the changes in wei wuxian's behaviour stopped him from giving his brother a good smack to the head.

Though, it could've all been an after-effect of the disaster that had befell the cultivation world. Besides, whoever claimed he wasn't affected by the war would be lying to himself.

War never left anyone unscathed. It affected the living more than the dead.

And even if wei wuxian had proved to be the most powerful amongst all in the battle against wen ruohan, he was but only human. There was no way he would've escaped the aftermath of participating in the war.

Thus, Jiang cheng had let him be, letting him mourn in his own way the destruction of their home and come to terms with everything that had happened. He only hoped his brother would keep in mind the reputation of the sect before doing anything shameful.

However, he couldn't help but let his temper get the best of him whenever he would witness wei wuxian coming back drunk out of his mind in the dead of the night.

Though he never took excessive measures to prevent him from roaming around the town downing god knew how much alcohol and fueling the already outrageous talks about the head disciple of yunmeng jiang sect.

He, however, never left an opportunity to remind his brother of the same, praying it would make him reconsider his behaviour in public and confine his ways of dealing with the effects of the events that had destroyed their peaceful lives, to the boundaries of lotus pier. He only hoped his brother would get back to normal soon.

But who was mighty enough to stop jiang yanli from fussing over her a-xian. Sometimes it seemed like their sister cared more for wei wuxian than her own blood brother. Much like his father did.

The thought left him with bitterness again as he fumed inside. He was determined to give the careless boy a piece of mind for his reckless attitude and make him understand that he couldn't make everything about himself. He wasn't the only one suffering.

With this thought in mind, he reached the gates of his brother's quarters that were strangely already open. He entered with the intention to smack some sense into wei wuxian when he stopped in his tracks.

The blood in his veins froze at the sight before him.

Wei wuxian was kneeling on the ground, with his back to jiang cheng, facing the wall and holding an unsheathed suibian at his neck- presumably with the intention to slit his own throat.

"Wei wuxian!"

Jiang cheng called out his name in terror as he hurriedly unsheathed his own sword before throwing it towards the weapon in wei wuxian's hand. His heart was thumping crazily against his rib cage when his shandu forced suibian out of wei wuxian's hands at the nick of time.

He finally saw the tear stained face of his brother when he turned to look at him. He wasted no time in thinking and quickly rushed to the other boy's side just in time to catch his falling body.

Jiang cheng heard him mumbling something incoherent before he fainted in his arms. To say that he was horrified at the turn of events was an understatement.

He could never, even in his most wildest of dreams, imagine that his carefree brother would consider suicide as an option. He had a hunch that his brother was suffering more than he let on but jiang cheng never considered it to be this serious.
