It was a beautiful monsoon evening in Kingsland and the sun was covered in clouds.
"Hurry up you will be late" screamed Mrs. Oberoi as Melinda was packing chores for her evening accounts tution.
A cute girl with straight dark hairs and modern fashion style, and her crisp mascara lined to perfection, stepping down the stairs and hugging the yelling mother, takes a chocolate from the jar and runs down to parking. Then she kick starts her moped to reach the class, halfway through and she felt a drop of rain on her hand."Oh God...not today...!" She prays looking into the sky, as it started to drizzle and she had forgotten her raincoat at home. She was hardly minutes away from the destination and it started raining. Her beautiful straight hairs were now wet and draining water.
As she reached the parking, she got down from the moped and laughed at herself as to what a mess she was.
At that very moment came Jack, on his sports bike which his father brought for his elder brother after he refused to eat for 2 straight days, but as he shifted to Bangalore it was Jack's property and he would daily groove on it with his friends. Belonging to a middle class family sitting with his friends on a small coffee house outside tution was his favourite leisure activity.
Jack removed his raincoat and was drying himself out using a towel which he carried in his bag, and when he saw Melinda struggling to dry her hair that were drenched in water and shivering due to cold. Jack had never before interacted with Melinda before but occassionally saw her during the class discussing doubt with the teacher.
He wanted to help Melinda but was very much hesitant to speak to her and stood there with towel in his hand, staring at her as she dried her hair. Melinda turns around and shakes her head in an attempt to drain the water from her hairs, and saw Jack standing awestruck."What??"..she questions Jack
"N..no..nothing" replys Jack stammering and in shock as he was caught staring Melinda.
"Are you gonna help" asks Melinda, " I forgot my raincoat home and got completely drenched and cannot attend class with water draining out."
"Sure..take this" Jack replies as he hands over the towel to Melinda."Aren't you way to early for your time," mocks Jack, as usually it is Melinda who interrupts the whole class with her fabulous entry 25 mins late in an hour class..
"Yes I know, Melinda responds laughing.. My mom wanted me to leave early to avoid rain..but as said things for me never goes as per plans... When I wanted to reach the class 15 mins early, see I am already late and the class is going to start.Jack: Don't worry, Sir usually joins at 4:35 and we still got 3 mins to run to the class..
Melinda: Is it??
Jack: Yes, and if you are done we should run
Melinda: blushes and thanks Jack. They both start to run towards the class.
Hushhh..we are on time
Gasps Jack as they grasp the last row seats.
Melinda was breathing heavily after that run and was filling silly about what all happened at parking and thanked Jack once again.Jack replied with a welcome and offered her water.
This was the very first time they had ever interacted in last 6 months or so..since the tuitions began.
Shivering Melinda was sitting next to Jack and near the window AC which was always turned on to maintain temperature of class.
Jack noticed Melinda's discomfort and offered her to switch seats.
Melinda readily agreed. It was Jack's turn to shiver...but it was he who offered to switch so couldn't blame anyone else.
The clouds had gone and it had stopped raining as the class ended, but now it was both Melinda and Jack feeling cold due to rain and AC.As they were moving towards the parking, Jack asked. "Coffee?"
Melinda could not refuse, as Jack had been so nice to her that day and also she badly needed something hot to drink.
