Divorce

Before leaving the house to tend the farm, Sebastian gives me a coffee and a kiss. "I love you." he says with his signature goofy grin. I almost didn't make it outside before my cheerful expression dropped. I have to tell him..I think to myself. Once my work is taken care of, I go to visit Harvey at the clinic. We've been seeing each other in secret for months behind my husband's back and it's been tearing me up inside. I go inside and he greets me from the front desk. "Morning, Lane!" Harvey's smile fades seeing my nervous face. "Is everything ok? You look worried.." my eyes well up with tears and he quickly comes around the desk, embracing me. I let out a shuddering sigh. "I can't keep sneaking around like this.. I have to tell Sebastian about us." Harvey nods. "I see. Do you need me to be there?" he asks. "Yes, please" I hug him tight and leave for the mayor's. "I need to file for divorce." I tell Lewis. "Trouble in paradise? Ah, well.. sign these papers and your husband will be notified tomorrow."

I return home and leave a letter to Sebastian before going back to Harvey's. It reads:

Sebastian, I love you too much to keep this from you. I've found myself out of love & in with another. Come to Harvey's clinic so I can explain everything.

Harvey agrees to let me stay the night until the paperwork goes through, but the next morning, Sebastian enters the clinic, letter in hand with tears streaming down his face. "So it's true?" He chokes out, looking at Harvey. "Sebastian, I-" Harvey starts, but Sebastian interjects. "You don't need to explain anything.." he looks back to me. "Lane, you're happy, that's all that's ever mattered to me. If it's what you want, then I want the same for you." Before leaving, Sebastian pulls off his wedding band and drops it onto the counter.
