Lorina slowly rises from her bed, hearing her mother in the other room watching tv.
As Lorina tiredly trudged out her door, her mother looked at her from behind the couch.
"Hey, go make me some food, I'm hungry."
"Umm.. No? The world isn't at your feet, at least ask."
"Whatever. It's easy, you could do it without even looking if you knew-"
Lorina cut her off, "Hey. I'll make the damn food. Just be quiet about it for once." She said with a fierce glare, walking to the kitchen.
Her mother sighed and turned back around to the TV, "Just sayin'."
Lorina grabbed a pan from the cupboards and turned on the stove, already irritated at the coming day.
"I just don't understand. If I were you, I would already have it mastered."
Her mother fumbled, staring at the tv. Lorina rolled her eyes.
"Ma, you know it's harder than that. My power is way more intricate than yours."
"Well yeah, but you don't even have any progress! You're 17 for god's sake, and you still don't have anything!!"
Lorina groaned, putting a piece of bacon on the pan. "Ma-"
"Oh, I'm so sorry. You can move a piece of damn paper. How inconsiderate of me!" Her mother mocked.
She sighed, deciding she didn't want to start a fight and would ignore her.
Almost every morning was like this, Lorina kind of thought it would be different today, though- since she graduates this week.
She finished the bacon and walked over to the couch. Only now she realized her little brother, Jacrim, was sleeping alongside her mother.
Lorina sat down on the far end of the couch, setting the bacon on the coffee table.
"Alright Ma, I'm done."
She said, and an eerie silence replied.
"M-Ma..?"
Right after she said that, the lights flickered.
Lorina looked over at her mother, who was drifting off to sleep.
"Hey Ma, wake up! You're gonna make the electricity go out."
Mother's eyes opened, blinking heavily. "Yeah, yeah. I know.." She bent over and grabbed a piece of bacon.
"...Ma, you need to get more sleep."
"Ya think? I feel elated!"
Lorina rolled her eyes, getting up off the couch with a piece of bacon.
Serves her right for caring.
Lorina entered her room again, taking a bite of the bacon with disgust. She purposely burnt it so her mother wouldn't like it.
She plopped down on her bed, grabbing her phone from underneath the bed. After a while, her phone was close to dead, so she set it to charge. Lorina then slowly drifted to sleep.
Lorina was sitting on the forest floor, when suddenly she heard something from the trees. Weeping? She stood up and searched for the source, when she saw something move.
Lorina paused, a feeling of déjà vu washing over her. She moved a branch out of her way, seeing a little girl hunched over and sobbing.
Tears pricked at Lorina's eyes- she knew who this was.
The girl turned to look at Lorina, but instead of eyes, there were only hollow, torn up sockets.
Lorina felt her throat close up, tears streaming down her face. She couldn't breathe, and she fell to the floor. Voices from the trees yelled "Cry!" Over and over, getting louder and louder until it was the only thing she could hear..
