Lorina was jolted awake by some unknown reason. The sun was shining brightly, there were birds chirping, and light was glaring off of the waves of the lake. An unfrozen lake. What happened to all of the snow?
Lorina rubbed her eyes, and she wondered if this was another dream- sometimes her dreams were very vivid.
When Lorina brung her hand away from her face, however, she saw blood splattered on her forearm.
All the memories from last night came back to her, she whimpered and covered her mouth. Lorina squeezed her eyes shut and leaned her body against the tree as she replayed her mother's death in her head.
"Oh my god, oh my god.. What do I do?" She cried. She stopped her whimpers with a deep sigh as she got on her hands and knees. Lorina shivered and stared into the grass. She didn't know what to think, or say, or do.
Lorina stood up and staggered towards the shimmering lake.
"The snow only melted. All that snow.. In one night."
She wasn't even aware of the words she was saying- too much was happening in her mind. Her heart felt heavy- no, it felt nonexistent. Like somebody tore it out from her chest.
Lorina looked out into the horizon with a troubled face. Despite the warm sun, Lorina still felt the cold of last night within her core. She also felt hungry. Very hungry.
Lorina figured out what to do- she needs outside help. She needs contact with people in order to figure all this shit out, she needs to get home. But as Lorina looked at her surroundings, she realised that she did not recognise anything. She tried to retrace her steps, but the only thing she could remember from last night was the gunshot and the panic.
Lorina tried to ration which direction she went in to get here, but simply couldn't know- she took lots of strange turns in order to get the killer off her tail. Lorina shook her head vigorously as she paced, frustrated by her own lack of remembrance.
She groaned, and decided to just walk east. Either way, she would find society, right? She never knew how far this forest went. She would figure that out today.
As Lorina walked, she tried to focus on something else to stop remembering last night. There was nothing else to focus on but her physical pain- her throbbing head, her empty stomach- her aching feet. So that's what she focused on.
She trudged through the forest for what seemed like hours, whimpering and groaning. Just when Lorina started to give up, she saw a street ahead.
For the first time in a long time, she felt hopeful. She ignored her searing pain and sprinted towards the street. Lorina ran faster and faster, realizing houses connected to the streets, people walking outside. She grinned wildly, slowing down when the trees stopped.
"Society!" She laughed, arms up to the sky. "Oh, haha! I never thought I'd see it!"
People looked at her with confused faces, but Lorina did not notice- or care for that matter.
Lorina panted heavily, putting her hands on her knees. She smiled and straightened her posture once again, as she did so she got a rush of lightheadedness.
She blinked and tripped towards a tree, catching herself on its bark.
"Aughh.." She groaned, eyebrows furrowed and face contorted in discomfort. She felt an awful feeling in her throat like she needed to throw up.
Her vision turned to white static and her ears started ringing. She didn't even realise she passed out until she felt her body crash into the ground.
