Nash Grier, 16, has earned the full ire of the internet after a Vine he had recorded in April and subsequently taken down has resurfaced. In it, he can be found yelling a violent, homophobic slur in response to a commercial about HIV. Read on for 5 things to know about the North Carolina teen whose apology may not be enough

1. Nash Is Just 16 Years Old

Born December 28, 1997, Hamilton Nash Grier is just 16 years old. His grievous error can be chalked up to being so young, but he’s not so young that he doesn’t know that that word is not acceptable, at all. Ever.

2. Nash Is The Most Followed Person On Vine

With 8.7 million followers, Nash is the most followed person on Vine. Combined with his friend and frequent collaborator, Cameron Dallas, the two share approximately 13.7 million Vine followers between them. That is a lot of influence for a teenager to have — too much, really, considering Nash’s choice to post the homophobic Vine.

The rest of his social media following isn’t too shabby, either — 5.8 million on Instagram, and 2.71 on Twitter. Behold the almighty power of adolescents.

3. Nash Will Be On A Movie (Or TV?) Screen Near You

In May, Nash and Cameron signed a deal with AwesomenessTV for an upcoming film, according to The Daily Dot. Few details are known at this point — including whether it will be on movie or TV screens — but what we do know is that AwesomenessTV was acquired by DreamWorks in May 2013. Many of DreamWorks’ films are marketed and distributed by Walt Disney Studios, and we have a feeling that they don’t take too kindly to scandals such as these.

4. This Isn’t The First Time Nash Has Featured In Mainstream Media

The media attention that Nash is featuring this time around is certainly not positive, but this isn’t the first time that mainstream media has taken notice. Other than the coverage that Nash and Cameron received for their AwesomenessTV deal, Nash has appeared on Good Morning America twice. Not too bad for a teenager who made himself famous on social media for 6-second videos.

"I apologize for anything negative I've said towards gays and for that matter anyone.I was young,ignorant,stupid and in a bad place.I've moved on and learned from my mistakes I am so truly sorry to anyone I have offended.I have nothing against anyone or anything that promotes equality.sorry again"

Nash may be just 16 years old, but that is surely old enough to not only understand that that word is rooted in hatred and social discrimination, and that he needs to face the consequences. Is his Twitter apology enough?Let me know.comment below
