You step off of the bus and watch as it is driven away, you can see James who is always in the walkway from the back of the bus, you could swear he looks back at you just before the bus turns the corner which gets a sad yet dreamy sigh out of you.
'oh summer break.'
something that for some reason you never look forward to despite the fact you are going into high school next year.
You stand there for a moment before walking up to the mailbox,
you know dad probably hasn't checked yet, you open the box and sift through the letters most of which are just your dads fiancés cosmetic letter or house payments but surprisingly there happens to be a letter addressed to you.

You see there is only your name and address on the envelope, you walk up to the house opening up the letter just before you open the front door. You push up your glasses stepping inside, the letter reads: "you deserve this and more"
'well this is off to a Stupid cheesy start'
you close the door behind you and see folded into the paper is..a ticket? One plane ticket to Texas then what seems to be a..
'It's jurassic world!..camp cretaceous?'

You let out an almost inaudible gasp. Looking over the letter again you skip the rest of it once you notice the last word on the bottom of the page, all it says is "-mom." which just makes you scoff but it's kinda rude of you to do so seeing as there's No Way you aren't going. You look up to see dad who had walked into the kitchen reading the letter he just grabbed from your hands, luckily you stuffed the tickets in your pocket right after you first looked them over.

Your dad looks up from the paper giving you a blank stare, he isn't quite frustrated but that's the look he has."y/n that's just a day away.. and you know how i feel about that place." he says that as if this opportunity is nothing, it's not sports, its Dinosaurs! honestly you've been waiting to get out of these extracurricular activities forever anyway, especially for summer. You weren't built for all this.

Focusing back on your dad you see his eyes glance to the bottom of the page, once he sees who it's from he sighs and leans back against the kitchen counter handing you the letter that you stuff away with the tickets. He begins to think about it for a moment "you're going to have to call me y'know?" when he says this you overjoyed but best try and not get your hopes up "phones aren't allowed." you inform him with an odd glance. he crosses his arms and quirks a brow "how you know all this, kid?" he asks to which you reply with a shrug.

With that he walks off and goes to sit in the living room to mess around with his bass, he is pretty good at playing, pretty cool dad.  You grab your school binder and walk into your room pressing your back against your bedroom door as you close it and drop your binder on the small chair that sits at the foot of your bed

'a two week trip to Jurassic world camp cretaceous, m e?'
You cheer quietly then spin around falling back onto your bed letting out a content sigh. You have only been waiting for this moment your whole life, you would never be able to go without something like this, mystery tickets, you are never going to read her explanation, you are just lucky she sent these. And yet you could still call yourself a liar, you don't believe it for a second even though it's right here in front of you
'but why mom? the tickets are great but this changes nothing. the rest of this stupid letter is probably just an apology'
You hold the paper up.. no you shouldn't read the rest of it, doesn't matter.
You toss the letter on your bedroom floor and yawn stretching out on your bed.

Your eyes flutter open to bright sunshine seeping through your window. You don't even remember falling asleep yesterday. You feel around for your glasses which you then shove onto your face while sitting up with a big yawn. Pulling back your blankets you grab your phone and check the time, seeing that it's 2pm you let out an exasperated sigh 'i really need to fix my schedule for camp.'

Dad doesn't like it when you sleep in either but you leave your room to check up on him despite the backlash you may get for doing so.You exit your room and look around, it has been what feels like forever since this has been a full house but you still wake up every day expecting a loud and lively environment. You walk past dad who is watching a movie in the living room and step  into the kitchen where you make food for the both of you.

Once you finish eating you go back into your room and pull out your suitcase from the top of the closet setting it on your bed. You dust off the top and open it up, sit down next to it, pull out a new pocket sized empty notebook of yours and inhale deeply "alright.." you wispier to yourself and begin making a list, doodling pictures of the things you will pack on the page and officially begin packing.

first fold clothes which are just a few pairs of jeans, different coloured tank tops and a bathing suit just incase. You then layer it with a first aid kit and your beauty bag, you toss a camera in there too but you probably cant have those for the same reason you shouldn't bring your phone but you're sneaking both, just ways for contact, you doubt anyone from home will try  to contact you but you kinda wanna show off. Honestly? as the day gets nearer you get a bit nervous too, you haven't traveled without family with you before... and these are total strangers.

Packing didn't feel like it took too long but once you look at the clock you see it's now 6pm. You rush out to the kitchen where you see dads fiance (Kim) just getting home from work, dad looks at her with a smile as she walks straight past him "dinner is ready!" he says as she passes then he looks at you with the same smile. You are never sure if he is good at consealing his emotions or these things really don't effect him.

Despite Kim being so cold he only ever tries to show her affection, you know he loves you, just not as much, not as much as he did your brother, your mother, not as much as Kim, but you can live with it. You sit and eat with your dad then clean up the kitchen, biting down on a cookie  as you go into the laundry room and toss your hoodie in the washer. You walk back to your room and lay out a pair of your lighter jeans and a white tee-shirt.

Looking through your suitcase you make sure you have everything then sit on your bed to text your two of your friends about it, they don't quite understand your interests or knowledge but they're supportive enough, after all it's a once in a lifetime opportunity and since researching the camp you have heard that since this is early access there will be behind the scenes tours which you are hoping is true.

You decide to call the group chat, only Sara answers as per the usual and you are immediately chatty "Sara did you know James isn't going to highschool with us next year? oh my god im so nervous. Can you believe Mom sent that to me? This is gonna be Amazing, i wonder what the other kids are like"
"Girl. Chill. It's the first day of summer. Also one topic at a time please?" she replies.

The conversation from there is pretty much about the whole school year and you accidentally get too serious at some point with the whole topic of "its gonna be highschool" and the worry of what you are going to do with your life which has been haunting you since you were 12- but Sara tends to keep things down to just weird random topics and talking about how much she's gonna miss you while she's at her dads for the summer.

You spend hours talking on the phone until forcing yourself to sleep with a nervous tummy ache by reading a book.
