North Korea, South Korea border

(Third Person)
Y/N flipped down his NVGs as he slowly crawled through some brush. Only just a few minutes ago he was smuggled across the border by a South Korean spy. His objective was to spy on a warehouse where satellite surveillance has seen lots of movement. It was about twenty degrees out making this RECCE harder than it already was."Almost there come on. Suck it up." He quietly spoke to himself. After crawling a good mile of terrain he got to his vantage point. There he set up his OP(Observation Post). He pulled out a camera and began snapping photos of the warehouse. As he did so North Korean soldiers were spotted moving crates into trucks. He snapped photos of them before his heart dropped. There was what seemed to be Russian contractors."Well fuck." After another ten minutes of taking photos he headed to the extraction point. The extraction was complicated and dangerous. He had to sneak out via fishing boat. A local offered to help smuggle him for his freedom and citizenship in South Korea. Y/N eventually made it to the dock where the boat waited for him."We need to hurry. I heard Russian voices not to long ago." The local spoke quietly. Not wanting to get into any situation he hopped on. As the man started the engine to the boat a few Russians yelled off in the distance. Quickly the American onboard hid inside an empty crate. A few voices were heard before a couple of people hopped onboard as well."Turn off the engine." One said in English with a heavy Russian accent."No no I go fishing." The local said before a silence came over them."Search the boat." He knew they'd have to find him eventually. Ever so carefully he drew his sidearm. Just as he thought they were about to leave one of the Russians opened the crate. Immediately Y/N popped off a round into his head before getting up and shooting three more."Start the damn boat and get going old man!" He barked as heard voices off in the distance. The local began driving before their boat came under AK fire. He holstered his pistol before firing back with his rifle. They managed to get away unharmed. After managing to avoid the NK(North Korean)Navy they landed back in safe territory. The two aboard the boat were greeted by SK(South Korean)troops. The American was immediately taken to some higher ups where he handed over the intel. They grew worried knowing Russians were involved but the only thing they could do was push forward. Finally after a long day of debriefing he was allowed to leave. Y/N decided to take a cab to Grace's apartment. Once he got there he knocked on the door. It was pretty late so he assumed she was more than likely asleep. Not getting a response he searched for a spare key and found one under the doormat. He quietly unlocked the door and entered. There Grace laid asleep on the couch. Closing the door behind him, he looked at the microwave where a sticky note was placed. It read,"I made you food, just reheat". Y/N smiled. It was some soup she had made which he happily ate up. As soon as he finished it he picked the sleeping woman up. Gently he placed her in bed, tucked her in, before resting on the couch. A sudden wave of ease washed over him. Slowly his eyes shut. As morning arrived Grace was the first to wake up. She looked over to the couch seeing the American that laid there. A small smile crept to her lips. She didn't really know but every time she was around him a feeling of fuzziness filled her heart. Looking at the time it was still early but not feeling tired she decided to get up. Looking down at her phone there was a text."I need you and your American at base in two hours I have an important meeting that you two need to attend" After groaning she awoke the sleeping man on her couch who was still in his gear."Hey we have to be at base in two hours. I suggest you get showered and have some breakfast." He says up and stretched. Looking up at her he smiled."Do you think you could make more of that soup from last night it was really good." For some reason she blushed which she hated."Sure as long as you promise to go shower. You smell like ass." He chuckled before taking of his kit and heading for the shower with some clothes. An hour passed before they headed out to the base to attend that meeting. It was long and boring. Basically a senior commander explained they'd be staying at a FOB near the border. They'd be staying there just in case there's any major advances from the North. Once the meeting was over the two groaned."That was boring wasn't it kid?" Y/N asked laughing a bit."Ya it was. You know I'm kinda nervous to get to that FOB." Grace said twiddling her fingers."Just keep your eyes peeled and your head on a swivel. If it makes you feel any better you can stick by me if you want." Her face flushed red at the offer."Sounds l-like a plan." They went out to the airfield with all their gear where a helicopter waited. The two boarded along with a few other Korean special forces operators. Off they went to the FOB. Due to the threat of being shot down, the helicopter was forced to land a mile away from the base. Y/N lead the group of soldiers to it and eventually made it to the main gates. Once through he immediately went to the barracks. Grace followed."So what are we suppose to do?" She questioned. He took off his helmet before laying in a cot."Just relax for now. We'll have something come up for us to do or maybe the North will attack our position, who knows. But get some rest while you can because once they start attacking who knows how long it'll be till you get some." Feeling bored she went out of the barracks and went on her phone. Most of the day was stale. Nothing really happened other than a few reports of enemy troops building up two miles out. As the sun set the tension rose. Y/N looked through his NVGs at a nearby tree line. His eyes caught movement. It looked as if a dozen or so people were crawling."Hey I got movement on the north side tree line. Dozen or so combatants. From what I can tell they don't have NVGs." He said over his COMs. Troops quietly rushed to their positions and flipped down their night vision."They don't know we can see them. Let's draw them a little close." Everyone watched through their green tinted vision as the enemy slowly crawled towards them. One slowly got up from the ground before ultimately being shot with a three round burst from Y/N. Those three suppressed shots echoed out through the night signaling for the rest of the troops to open fire. He watched as the enemy was torn to bits by heavy automatic fire. One tried running away before receiving a six round burst to the back from a M249."That it?" Grace asked moving next to her American partner. An illumination flare was then shot over their position. Before everyone knew it almost what seemed like a tidal wave of NK troops charged. As they charged they let out a blood curdling scream. Everyone immediately opened fire. Rows of the enemy dropped to the ground dead but they just kept coming. As they ran towards the NATO troops they blindly fired. Wanting this situation over with quickly Y/N ordered the mortars to be fired at the tree line. So they did. Six 60mm rounds flew up and into the night sky before landing on the enemy. A few enemy tried retreating before ultimately being shot. There was a long silence."Looks like we've stomped them out for the night." Y/N said laughing a little. Grace on the other hand was hyperventilating. Quickly rushing over to her he sat her down behind some cover."Hey look at me. Are you alright?" In an attempt to speak she said,"T-That w-was my first t-time." He sighed and put his hands on both her shoulders."Listen to me alright? Take deep slow breaths. Focus on me." So she did eventually calming down. The man smiled and sat next to her."How do you get over fact you're killing someone?" This question caught him by surprise."Well, it's tough. But at the end of the day it's either them or you. I remember my first kill vividly. It was on my first deployment to Afghanistan during my first year in the second Ranger battalion. We we're clearing buildings looking for a HVT. I was the point man in the stack so I was first in. Of course that day I was carrying an M249 so it was pretty hard moving around. As I stepped into a hallway some dude at the end of it stepped out from a room with an AK. I let out a a good twenty round burst into this dude. Practically turned him into Swiss cheese. His wife came out of the room screaming and wailing. My team and I yelled out for her to get down but she grabbed his rifle so I let out another burst of ten rounds into her. At the time I didn't feel anything but afterwards it kinda fucked with me. But like I said, it was either them or me. And I wanted to go home. The image of the bodies of people I've killed is always gonna stick with me but I know that they were all bad so I don't feel any empathy towards them. I know it's tough saying but live by the sword die by the sword. They chose that life, and that life got them killed." Grace sighed hearing this."Thanks. Do you mind if I stick by you?" Y/N smiled warmly."Sure kid. Just keep your head low." As he said so a sniper round cracked over their head causing them both to duck. The rest of the night went on like this. Waves of enemy troops would charge only to get mowed down. A few would take pot shots at their position and run. Once morning came the SK troops decided to advance on enemy positions. Y/N and Grace went along with them pushing up with friendly armor. They moved to the city known as Daeseong-dong. After some word they all decided to settle down in the abandoned town. The American found a storage shed he decided to stay in until they moved out."So do you plan on staying in here?" His female friend said opening the door."Ya. Do you plan on staying in here?" She shook her head yes."It's kinda cramped but you can scoot next to me if you want." After removing her gear and setting it aside she sat next to him."Hey I forgot to apologize." This confused him a little."About what?" Grace sighed."For acting like an asshole towards you. You're really nice and helpful and all I've been is rude to you these past few weeks." Y/N chuckled at her apology."Don't worry. You've already redeemed yourself by watching my back." This answer seemed to please her considering she was now smiling. Hesitantly she rested her head on his shoulder. He didn't mind. The soft pitter patter of rain on the roof slowly picked up in volume."Luckily we got here in time before it started raining. Or else we would've been stuck in it for awhile." Out of nowhere the woman next to him said,"I wouldn't mind it if as long as I was with you." Grace mentally cursed at herself for saying such a thing. Y/N, a tiny bit flustered said,"Same here."
