A lone wolf is often a dead wolf.

...At least that was true for when he lived with a pack. Beowolves are stronger together. United we stand, divided we fall, some say. Three years he grew up with that. But then his parents attacked a village and he then lived another five years alone. No pack. He should have died on his own and yet it seemed fate had other plans and sent two human children to cross paths with his.

Quite the duo they were. The girl was energetic and all over the place. The boy was calm, stoic and seemingly void of emotions. They seemed fun to be with, but the Beowulf knew that they couldn't stay with him. Humans stay in their own pack, their own kind. So surprisingly he felt reluctant as he took them to a human camp.

They both give him wary looks. They were uncertain. They have been with him for months and they didn't know what would happen if they left him. He lowers his head and lightly pushes them to the direction of the human soldiers that were pointing their weapons at them. The only reason the Beowulf wasn't dead because the female soldier in white. She kept their bullets at bay with a some command as she had a hand on his side.

The girl turns around and shouts, "THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!" The volume of her voice causes the boy next to her to jump in surprise. "We won't forget you! Promise!" The boy calmly turns back to him and bows his head. His own sign of gratitude.

His heart wenches as he watches the young humans link hands as they continue to walk away. Small figures becoming smaller and smaller with each step.

The female soldier stays by his side for a moment longer. "I didn't think it would be difficult for Nora and Ren to leave you," she said to him. "They must have truly loved you despite what you are."

Love? Was that what he felt about the two children? Or was he simply just letting them live? Perhaps he loved them back. It is quite peculiar. He didn't look like them. He walked on four legs and they walked on two. Though he could walk on two legs if he wanted to. He was covered with fur and white boney armor and they only hair on their heads and no armor. Yet they had looked past that and had the will to love a monster like him.

He looks back to Nora and Ren who were now being escorted by the soldiers. He sees one of the soldiers drape their coat over their soldiers while Nora was seen showing her hammer to them. He had been lonely for a long time before he found Ren and Nora but now he was going to be lonely again. He was going to miss them for sure. Nora's laughter and booping his nose and Ren's calm attitude.

The woman continues on, "It would seem that you are going to miss them as well they you." He doesn't answer her but merely lowers his ears slightly. "This must hard on you because you know there's no place for you in their world." Her words hurt more than any human weapon could. He sadly looks to where the children had gone. Behind the walls meant to keep him and other Creatures of Grimm out.

"Because Grimm are meant to kill humans and humans are meant to kill Grimm." she said. "That's how things are."

Is she done? He gives her a slightly irritated look and growls a bit. She is, however, unfazed. Her face remains cold yet there is a sympathetic trace in her blue eyes. Quite ironic that nearly an hour ago she wanted to kill him and almost succeeded if it weren't for Ren and Nora. He would always have a scar on his muzzle as a reminder. Now she was speaking to him.

"When I was younger there was a story that I loved very much," she said. "It was a tale of two girls that lived in a castle with their father who hated them." she explained. "Whether it was luck or fate, they brought the attention of the mountain lord that lived near their castle. He freed them and took them as his own. Together the three of them had adventures and many days filled with joy and happiness. However, the girls had to grow up and leave the mountain lord behind to have their own adventures." she adds, "I always wanted a friend like that."

She lays her head on his fur. There must have been more to the story, he thought. "I had to grow up eventually," she admits sadly. "I wasn't going to ever have a friend like the mountain lord." He glances at her. What kind of life did this woman have? He wanted to ask but only a whine came from his throat instead of words. She turns away and begins walking away just like Ren and Nora.

She pauses and turns her head back to him. "The mountain lord had a name," she said. He tilts his head slightly for her to elaborate. "It was Oscar. I think it suits you."

The Beowulf thinks it over before nodding his head. Oscar thinks it does. He looks back to where the children disappeared and tilted his head back and howled to the night sky to let Ren and Nora know he was saying goodbye to them and he promised to never forget them as they him.

With a heavy heart, the lonely wolf walks back into the forest.
