"You won't get far now little girl," a strangely familiar voice spoke.

I jumped up off the bench and looked around to see the devil himself. My uncle Billy. I have been trying to stay away from him ever since my parents died and he got custody of me. I am seventeen which means I have 6 months left of his tourture.

"You're coming back home with me," he grumbled. I knew I would be punished for running away, but I was once told not to show anyone any fear.

I grabbed my things as he yanks me by the arm.

That is definitely gonna leave a bruise. You dumb bitch, isn't that obvious.

I'm going to have to buy some more makeup to cover that shit up.

He pulls into the driveway of our lovely "home". He gets out and drags me by my hair as we go inside.

He threw me down as we entered the house. I learned that fighting back just makes it worse. I just let it happen.

He grabs me by my hair and knees me in the face.

Great, now I'm going to have to rearrange my nose.

"How many times am I going to have put it through your head that you're my property!" he screamed while kicking my stomach. I grunted while he was laughing. What a prick.

"You're the reason," Kick. "My brother is," Kick. "Dead you stupid little girl," Kick.

He walked into the kitchen and grabbed the bottle of Jim Beam. He chugged it and then threw the bottle at my head. Luckily I dodged by just a inch, but he didn't really notice because a couple of the shard pieces shattered on me.

He finally stopped and left the house. I headed upstairs to my room to get cleaned up, I have school in about two hours. It's 6:13 am and school starts at 8:00 am. I head to my bathroom and got washed up. I apply some makeup. Not as much as I wanted because I was running out of concealer. Guess I would just have to wear a big hoodie and jeans with my vans. Not that I wear anything else besides that. I have a job at a local diner but Billy seems to think since I am forced to live with him I owe him money. I kept some in a box under the floorboards. It was about 6,000 dollars, luckily he hadn't found that. It's what I am going to use when I turn 18 to get out of this hell hole.

I finished getting ready and headed to the place more tolerable than the place I'm supposed to call home.

I arrived at school. I'm pretty invisible besides the one friend I do have. Her name is Analise but I call her Ana. She is what you call a standard beauty. She has blue eyes and blonde hair. While I have green eyes and brown hair. She is everything I am not. I don't hate her for it though. She is beautiful.

My locker is fairly close to all my classes so that is a plus I guess. I grab my books from my locker and head to my first class.

"Mel, wait up," Ana says, running towards me with her books in her hand.

"Hey Ana, how was Paris?" I ask. She went to Paris for the summer. Her family is loaded.

"It was amazing Mel, I wish you would've come with me."

"I know, I'm glad you had fun though!" Ana invited me to go to Paris with her and her family but I denied knowing what Billy would say. Even though Ana is my best friend I haven't told anyone about Billy and what he does to me. I couldn't stand being the reason anyone got hurt.

"Melany, are you even listening to what I'm saying?" she says, interrupting my thoughts.

I just blink at her. While she continues talking on our way to class I sense someone staring at me. I look and I see Ayden Ryder, your typical bad boy. Tall, olive tan skin, piercing green eyes and black hair. He typically wears black. A lot of rumors say he's the leader of the most feared mafia. I'm knocked out of my thoughts by none other than Kennedy and her little squad of plastic Barbie's.

"Excuse me you little bitch!" she squealed in that disgusting voice of hers.

"Um you must be blind you ran into her," Ana exclaimed. I just let Ana talk back, I'm not scared of her or anything but I try to get my head down. I know if I involve myself I'll end up in the principal's office and I don't feel like getting beat because I interrupted Billy's day drinking.

I looked over to where Ayden was and he wasn't there anymore. Suddenly I turn my head and see him right in front of me. It's like he is trying to study me. Kennedy is trying to talk to him all flirty but he is staring straight at me. Kennedy realizes and turns to me.

"Ayden baby, why are you looking at that troll?" she asked. He just scoffs and says "Because you're too fake to look at, get out my face."

She stomps her foot like a little child and walks away.

"What's your name?" he asked.

Before I could answer Ana grabbed my arm and took me to class before we were late.
