My Mom and I fill up our suitcases as much as we can before we leave. This time we're traveling to Germany. My Mom and I have gone all over the world. Anything people can name, you should assume we've been there.
We've been to France, England, Africa and some other places I can't pronounce. But for now Germany has been our mission. My Mother and Father used to travel all the time when I was a baby. When I was 9 my mother told me my father had cancer. I didn't understand what that meant but soon after I remember the hospital visits, crying and eventually, the funeral. My Father was all I aspire to be. He travelled to see the world five months before he passed.
I want to carry on his legacy with all my heart. Traveling was the one thing that made him feel like, well him. Every airplane ride and every boat he took made him feel alive. I promised myself to carry on his legacy of traveling by going to Germany, One of the many places he didn't get to visit.
I made a checklist of all the things I had to bring. Clothes, shoes, money, travel kit, toothbrush, toothpaste andd- "oh right a pencil and paper" if you couldn't tell, I like to write, like a lot. Writing has always been a part of my life. Writing helps me express what I feel even when I had a bad day.
My Mom yells at me to come eat breakfast before we head out. I say goodbye to my comfy bed and my two dogs named Sammy and Birlen. Just as I take a bite of toast I see Birlens eyes. His eyes looked sad and he was crying desperation. "It's okay buddy I'll see you in two weeks" WOOF. I smile as I give the rest of the toast to him. "Alright kiddo it's time to go or else we're gonna miss our flight!" Says my Mom. "Okay okay Im coming" I said as I kissed my dogs on the forhead.
We arrive at the airport just in time. My Mom knew the flight was going to be long so she got us first class seats. A huge sigh of relief came out of me when I found my seat. Number 31B and number 32C were me and my Moms seats. I look around to see who else is sitting near me. Some old man who looks hella rich, a tiny boy and his Mother, old ladies who looks nervous, and oh- a cute boy! I smile as I look over to him. He turns to me and waves his hand to signal for me to come to him.
I point to myself in shock- does this guy actually want me? I start to get up but just as I do I trip over a dog. "Oh it was his dog." I said sadly. Turns out he was calling his dog over to him. Not surprised at all honestly, my luck with guys is terrible. I sit back trying to hide the embarrassing moment that just occurred.
Just as I start to plug in my phone I hear the pilot say " Gooooooodmorning everyone! I hope your having a fantastic Friday. I'm Jen and I'm going to be flying us this evening. Please fasten your seatbelts as we will be getting ready to fly soon. Please be seated...." yes you get the point.
After listening to that woman for what seemed like hours, I finally took my headphones out and got to listen to music. Sweet relief from all the noise like someone bothering me or telling me to be quiet. Nothing but utter silence and peace. I dose off into a deep sleep unaware of the fact I'm on a plane.
I suddenly wake up from my nap because I feel shaking. I feel my body shake with the plane and I immediately start to panic. I remind myself it's just turbulence as I look over to my Mom. She was of course sleeping through it- typical. I check to see if anything fell over. "Phew all good" I whisper.
I turn on the little black tv infront of me and pick a movie to watch. The little mermaid- no, The race to heaven- no, Aladdin- maybe. Just as I was about to give up I saw the beautiful letters that spelled, THE NOTEBOOK. I practically jumped out of my seat. The notebook has always been my favorite movie ever since I was little so I smile as I hit play.
I finish the movie and soon after a stewardess comes to our section of the plane and asks if I want anything to drink. "What do you have?" I say to her. "Water, alcohol, seltzer-" I cut her off short when she said seltzer. "Ohh seltzer sounds perfect thank you". I sip the cold lime flavored liquid and just as I finish I look over at my Mother. She sits there smiling at me. Her teeth white as snow but in her eyes I saw pain.
Most people look over at their parents and all they see is happiness. But I saw how scared my Mom was from her eyes. I walk over to her from my seat and give her a hug. "Mom don't be scared it's okay." It's funny that my Mom is scared of planes even though we travel almost every month. She gives me a slight smile which is my signal to go back to doing my homework from my seat.
We travel so much that I had to be homeschooled ever since I was 8. It sounds insane to other people but for me it's my life. No matter how hectic every plane ride gets. It's a big change from what life used to be, but for me it's an amazing feeling.
The swoosh of a plane taking off and the bump of it resting on the ground. That's what I lived for in life. It's cheesy but I really loved flying and knowing that the destination was just an ocean away.
A few hours later the pilot says we're almost there! I take a look outside the plane window and we've finally landed all I can think of is see you soon Germany!
