Tate walked me back to the cottage-or what was left of it. I thought he was just going to shake my hand and walk away, but he hugged me too. It was a warm embrace, one I hadn't felt since my parents left. It felt like I was safe. I was home in the cottage with Rodan, sitting in front of the fire, seven years old and reveling in all the money on our kitchen table.

Tate pulled out from the hug. He stared right through me. I considered turning around and walking back to Rodan, but before I could have even said goodbye, his lips were on mine. My cracked and bleeding lips on his perfectly smooth, wet, warm lips. He tugged on my upper lip, and I let him. A tickling feeling spread down my arm, past my elbow, and into my fingertips. I grasped his strong, sharp shoulder blades with my tingling fingers and kissed harder. My eyes were squeezed so tight that a tear slipped out of then. I wanted to kiss him forever. I wanted to lead him into my cottage and kiss him all night. But self-restraint kicked in and I pulled away and turned towards the rubble. Tate walked back towards the beach.

"Rodan?" I called.

Rodan was gone.

I searched around the rubble, at the grocery store, everywhere. Then I waited. It was terrible, waiting. My heart started beating quicker than normal every couple minutes when I thought of the possibilities of where he could be. He could be in Talon's prisoner camps. He could be lost somewhere in this destroyed suburb. He could be making out with some girl for all i knew! I was pacing back and forth when I stopped, sat down and cried.
