Pinky was lost in thought, gazing at the stars. He sighed, wishing he could tell Brain how he really felt. A shooting star arched the sky and the tall mouse made his wish. His ears twitched when he heard the window open, but he didn't turn around. Brain came over to the spot Pinky was sitting. "Hi," Pinky whispered. "Hi. What are you doing out here? It's 50 degrees! You'll get pneumonia," said Brain, concerned. "I'm just looking at the pretty stars," Pinky replied. "Do you mind if I join you?" Brain asked. Pinky smiled and made room for his friend. "Did you do your plan thingy?"Pinky inquired. "Almost finished, just taking a break," said Brain.
"Brain?"
"Yes?"
"How do you know if you're in love?"
"Well, usually, being around this person makes you excited and nervous, and you love spending time with them, and you wouldn't mind if you kissed," Brain attempted to explain.
"Brain?"
"Yes?"
"I think I'm in love."
"With who?"
"You."
One word. As it sunk in, Brain's face burned up. Pinky twiddled his fingers nervously, turning the color of his namesake. Was that the wrong thing to say? Had he ruined their friendship?
"Pinky, I-"
"I shouldn't have told you," Pinky sniffled. Brain gaped. Pinky, his sweet angel, crying? Pinky sobbed. Brain gave him an awkward hug to comfort him.
"Pinky, I l-love you too," Brain stuttered. Pinky's blue eyes instantly brightened. "Really?" Brain nodded nervously. Pinky gave his partner a crushing hug and Brain hugged back. "This is the happiest night of my life!" Pinky exclaimed happily. Brain took one look at those beautiful sapphire eyes and kissed him. The longest 7 seconds of their lives. They went back to their stargazing, hand in hand. Another star zoomed across the sky, but Pinky didn't make a wish this time. He just smiled and whispered into the darkness, "Thank you."
