"Mom, I'm gonna go take a walk by the beach. I have my phone if you need me," I hollered towards the kitchen as I went out the door. Ever since moving to Long Island, things have been really strange for me. I met two boys that were in the same orphanage as me all those long years ago. What are the odds that the three of us ended up living in New York and attending the same high school without being adopted by the same family?

"Wow, this is the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen," I whisper to myself as I reach the beach. I slip my sandals off and walk ankle deep in the waves, watching the sunset. The ocean was dark blue and green compared to the pinks, purples, and oranges of the sky. I had never seen a more beautiful sight. I heard footsteps splashing in the waves behind me and then groaned loudly at the voice that spoke up.

"Hey there Aisling! I saw ya walking alone and thought you might want some company. Especially company in particular." Billy had caught up to me and was using his best charming smile that made him look like an asshole.

"Billy, I'm not interested in you. And I sure as hell don't want your company. Now back off." I growled. His constant pestering was starting to get on my nerves. He grabbed my arms and forced me to face him.

"How many more hints do I have to give you? I want you and so you're mine. That's all there is to it." He stated confidently, like saying that would make it true. I spit in his face.

"Aww come on, is that really anyway to treat your boyfriend?" He smirked at my glare. Seriously, if looks could kill, he would have been disintegrated. "Just give me a kiss and I will forgive you."

"I wouldn't kiss you if my life depended on it," I scoffed, "now let go of me. I want nothing to do with you." I tried to jerk myself from his grip, but he tightened it, hurting my arms. I kept myself from wincing. The last thing I wanted was to show any sign of weakness in front of him.

"Just kiss me damn it!" He yelled. I shook my head no, but he wasn't accepting my rejection. He tried to force a kiss on me and then yelped in pain as he was thrown into the sand. The sudden release from his grip knocked me off balance and I fell into the water, getting soaked by the waves. I looked around to see what had detached me from Billy, but the sun was in my eyes and I couldn't quite see it.

"Stay away from me! I didn't do anything to her, I swear!" I heard Billy's fear filled voice yelling from somewhere off to my left. Then I heard a deep vicious growl. I rubbed my eyes and they finally adjusted. Billy was standing with his back to the ocean, his face a mix of anger and fear, arms out in front of him as if to fend off whatever was growling. It took me a moment for my brain to comprehend what I was seeing. A huge wolf with black fur and piercing blue eyes locked on to Billy. I was in shock. I had never heard never seen a wolf in person before.

"Okay, okay, you made your point. I'll leave her alone, please just don't hurt me. I promise that I won't touch her again." Billy pleaded, the anger in his voice replaced by pure terror. The wolf growled again. Billy took off running and I knew that he wouldn't be bothering me again. The wolf came over to me and stood beside me. I flinched, and it backed off. Then I felt this overwhelming sense of protection fall over me. Suddenly I knew that this wolf wouldn't hurt me. I stood up and pulled my phone from my pocket and groaned. It got completely soaked and wouldn't turn on. Dad was gonna make me get a job to replace it.

"Um, thanks. I don't know where you came from, but I really appreciate you helping me get rid of him." I felt awkward, talking to an animal like this, but at the same time I knew that he wasn't just a normal wolf.

You are welcome, but just to be sure, I will stay at your side for a little while. His voice echoed in my head. I gasped, recognizing this as the same that I heard before.
