Falconkit woke up late, he heard scuffling outside the nursery and found himself alone in the den. He yawned and then stretched. He padded out and saw Rockkit, Hopkit, and Dawnkit all playing right outside the warriors den. He knew Doekit was probably in the medicine cat den with Fourclover. Dawnkit saw him and bounded up to him. "Falconkit who do you want to be your mentor?" Realization hit him instantly. Today was the day he would become an apprentice!

"I don't know" he admitted. He knew that Hopkit and Dawnkit couldn't wait to become apprentices and then warriors but he was more scared than excited. While those two couldn't wait for the battles and bloodshed they would face he was terrified of what was to come. Doekit wanted to become a medicine cat apprentice and Falconkit was wondering if she had the right idea. "I wanna become a warrior, why can't I become an apprentice?" whined Rockkit, interrupting his thoughts. "Because your not 6 moons yet, and the warrior code says that you must be that age to become an apprentice." Olivecloud, Rockkit's mother stated. Rockkit let out a hiss of annoyance and laid down and put his tail over his eyes. Falconkit found the Warrior Code interesting. It was told down through generations, he wondered if some cat decided to change some things and then tell it too all the kits and then that entire clan was messed up. What if the actual requirement for becoming an apprentice was 17 moons and scrawny small cats like himself weren't actually ready. He knew it was ridiculous to think of those things but he couldn't help but wonder. He was about to ask Dawnkit what she thought about it but she was already back to playing with Hopkit.

He peered into the warriors den wondering who would mentor him. All of the warriors were gone by now but he still could scent them. Pantherclaw was known as the strongest cat in the forest, he was huge, the biggest cat he'd ever seen. But Pantherclaw was the father of Dawnkit and Hopkit, and foster father of him of course. So it was unlikely that he would mentor them, though he simply couldn't imagine Pantherclaw going soft on anyone. Talonfang and Berrytail would be ok, Talonfang would be preferred though. He doubted Fernstar or Spiderbite would mentor him, but she might feel obligated considering Falconkit was the son of former leader Sparrowstar. Mousetail was already mentoring Finchpaw. If it was between Pigeontooth and Antfrost he would probably choose Antfrost. But it wasn't up to him he realized so their was no point in wondering.

"Hey Falconkit!" Rockkit whispered. He had been so in thought, he hadn't noticed him walk up to him. "Wanna go into the leaders den?" "What!!!" Falconkit yelped. "Be quiet!" Rockkit muttered. "We could sneak in their and see what's in there!" Falconkit was about to say no when suddenly he heard a voice say "I'll go!" He and Rockkit both jumped up in fear and turned around to see Dawnkit. "Uhhhh... I'll go too!" Falconkit decided. "What about Hopkit?" Rockkit mewed. "Hopkit can eat dung, she wouldn't wanna go anyway." Dawnkit glanced at their mothers who were sleeping quietly. Their flanks rising and falling. "Where did Hopkit go?" Dawnkit sighed. "Rockkit she went to the nursery and now do you care more about Hopkit's daily life or sneaking into the leaders den." She hissed. "Rockkit shot a glare at her and took a step towards her. Falconkit sensing a fight padded right in the middle of them. "Let's go, there's no point in fighting, I wanna see the leader's den. Betcha Fernstar and Spiderbite are long gone by now," "Dawnkit and Rockkit shot one last glare at the other but nodded their heads. Falconkit looked around the camp. "Most of the warriors have left to go hunting and patrol, so now's a perfect time to go in. It's simple, we just sneak in there, look around and then leave and never tell a soul of what we just did." Falconkit meowed.

The three kits stood right outside the leaders den, staring in as the entrance was covered by lichen. "Lets go." Dawnkit hissed. She padded in first. Rockkit not wanting to feel beat by the she-cat immediately bounded in after her. Falconkit looked around worriedly. He walked in.

He was disappointed to see the room had nothing special about it, just a den and a nest... with Fernstar in it, and she was awake! "What are you two doing in my nest?" She growled. Rockkit and Dawnkit stood their petrified unable to say a word. "Well?" Falconkit was in shock, why would Fernstar still be in her den, it was so late in the day! Fernstar looked really angry, her fur was bristling out and she seemed very annoyed that they snuck in. Falconkit knew he could just walk out, but then Dawnkit and Rockkit would never forgive him, and they would admit that he was involved as well.

Falconkit knew what he had to do.

"it was my idea" he mewed.
